Alice, I grow most of my clematis with roses but on the structures that I do have several clematis growing together, I like mixing different types of blooms ie: large blooms with bell shaped blooms. I think it is a personal preference and what you like together. In my eyes they are all beautiful together and there are few bad combinations but I know that everyone doesn't agree with me! Betty Corning is a very vigorous clematis. She might overwhelm Rooguchi.

I put my Rooguchi in last year, so I don't have any pics yet, but I planted mine with a climbing pinata rose that I had put in the year before.

I agree that Betty Corning is a lovely clematis but much too vigorous to plant with Roguchi. I would plant her with another integrifolia type clematis. Mine is planted with Arabella. Just be forewarned that Roguchi can be very succeptible to mildew so you might have to spray it to keep it mildew free all summer. Some people have no problems with it so maybe you will be one of those!

You will LOVE Rooguchi. It one of my favorite clematis. It blooms from June until well into Sept. I must have had 1000 blooms all together. Need to cut it back hard about now (March) unless it is a small new plant.

How tall can rooguchi get?

Mine gets about 4 feet tall but it is planted in close proximity to a Zelkova tree so that might be constraining it somewhat.

Mine is grown with Crepuscule and it climbed nearly to the top of the 7 ft trellis behind Crepuscule. That was in it's first year. I suspect I just got lucky and it was planted in a place that made it happy. Of course, it helped that it had a tremendous root system when I got it!

One other thing to take into account with Rooguchi is that it is best classified as a semiclinger. It doesn't climb and grasp like most other types of clematis. In fact, some people claim that theirs doesn't cling at all. Mine is definitely a semiclinger meaning that although not as good a climber as most regular clematis, it sporadically grasps onto wire, trellises, etc. but then some parts don't so my estimation of overall height is based on that and the fact that it swags back down on itself. I have never tried to pull it apart to see how long the longest vines are.

Miguel, you are right. Some of my Rooguchi did cling and a lot of the canes that swagged down, I straightened and tied to the trellis or tucked into the rose. Yours is probably at least that tall as well. I let most of my clematis swag down because I like that effect but in this case I wanted it up the height of the rose.
