We are looking for backsplash ideas for our smallish kitchen. We have white cabinets and earth toned granite and want to complement both with something that is visually interesting but classic enough so it won't go out of style in two years. Do you have any thoughts?

My soon-to-be lovely den circa '69. The drapes will be burlap, neutral furniture, trim will be white, hope to replace that mantel and the cabinet fronts will be removed. But that paneling-should I paint, pickle or leave alone... Any other design ideas are welcome here as it obviously needs it. (you should see the rest of the house! I could keep y'all busy) Thanks for any ideas :)
