Park Seed problems????

Just curious if anyone else has ordered from them recently and experienced problems with their order? Over the years I've never had a problem until recently. Last year I ended up cancelling my order because they kept telling me it was back ordered... it finally was so advanced into the growing season that it was pointless to wait any longer for it. This year it's turning out to be the same thing, my order "should be in next week or the week after" and meanwhile my planter sits naked wasting valuable growing time. I'm wondering, is this becoming a habit for Park? I will certainly think twice next year before placing an order!

Greetings Twisty! What is it you are ordering, plants or seeds or accesory? I had a problem 2 years ago with some brugs that finally arrived in September. I am going there tomorrow to get some seeds and see what I can see. Have a good week! Plant_Manager.

Hey Plant! I ordered the windowbox collection: 3 heliotrope and 3 lantana popsicle. Last year it was a bi colored coneflower and varigated caryopteris. I finally cancelled my order in late June, grew tired of hearing "back order, back order, back order." Hope you have fun down there today! Wish I could remember the little mom and pop restaurant/hardware store we stopped at down in that area... they had the most delicious fried chicken I've ever had, lol!

    Greetings Again Twisty!
I have had problems a couple times with them on getting plants delivered in a realistic time frame. Seed has never been a problem with them. I live close enough that I could pick up plant orders but they tell me that I cannot pickup plant orders. I didn't go today but hope to go tomorrow.

Good fried chicken? Huh? I may have to ask them about where that might be. Have a great week! Jon.

Well, I SHOULD have cancelled! The order arrived today and I was flabbergasted. Opened the box and the leaves were black on all the plants, after unpacking them the leaves fell off and all that's left are blackened stems. After waiting so long for it to finally arrive I was literally crushed to see this, sigh. To their credit, I called Park Seeds instantly and they refunded my order promptly without question. The representative stated the problem was they were supposed to come 2nd day FedEx and instead shipped just plain old US postal service, 7 days in transit... ARRGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!! Just SO frustrating!!!! Thanks for letting me vent...........

It is sad to see this wonderful old nursery receiving such bad reports recently. However, I do want to urge those of you within a few hours driving time to visit Park's in January. Bargains galore! Last year's seeds, which are still viable, greatly reduced. Take your Park's catalog along with you for seed packet identification as they are usually out of them so late in the season. Good discounts on perennials, shrubs, bulbs. Most of us can plant all winter and a Jan. trip really benefits your wallet and the urge/need to plant shop during the dormant months.

Though I have never been nothing but a customer to Parks, I have worked for other mail order nurseries and the problems with shipping are almost always the shipping companies fault and not the nursery. Most businesses get contracts with multiple shipping outfits to cover their bases in case one service decides to flake out on them but you would be surprised how difficult it is to do business with these people. As a business you line up your out-going product to correspond to the pre-determined times that shipping service swears they will have a truck at your door. You agree to a set fee structure so that you can post it on your website or publish it in your catalog so your customers know what to expect. Everything flows as it should until the day your local shipping service guy decides that the price of gas is too high and he voids all the contracts he has with you and fails to show up or to even call to tell you that he isn't going to show up - so you scramble to find someone to ship your product. Customers complain and blame you for poor shipping practices when in reality all of it is out of your hands... I don't envy anyone needing to ship product with todays fuel prices.

Don't blame the nursery, more than likely the plants were fine when they began this process.

After years of messed up orders I generally won't buy anything from the west coast just because the plants suffer too much in route. Luckily I live in Raleigh NC where I can find just about anything I want locally.
