waterlogged rescue & gritty mix help please

Hello,

I had 2 potted Clivia's that I inherited that got hit with a deluge and the soil compacted. I gently removed them from their plastic pots and rinsed them REALLY well with water and set them in a shaded spot to dry.

I am planning on putting a 50/50 mix of Captan and Miracle Gro root mix on the roots prior to repotting but I am having a little trouble with the 1-1-1 gritty mix.

I was able to locate the poultry grit and calcined clay but as you can see from the picture, it looks like the calcined clay is going to be almost all 1/16 to maybe 3/32" whereas the poultry grit is more like 1/8". Is this going to be a problem or am over reacting? I have a bag of Repti Bark that I haven't opened yet. I'm probably going to have to bust it up with a hammer as the pieces (although uniform) appear to be about 1/4".

Advice? I need enough mix for a 12" pot and about an 8" pot...This seems to be very time consuming but I REALLY don't want to lose these.

Sorry, I don't seem to be able to add more than one photo at a time. As you can see by this photo and the lack of roots it looks like when it was repotted a couple of years ago after dividing it didn't like the Perlite and potting soil mix.

Good grief, I have clivia coming out of my ears. Well, not really. They are all in ordinary (well draining, no clay) potting mix for houseplants. Water when dry, for me once a week. That's it. I don't know why one would need a complicated mix. Seriously. They multiply so fast, I can't give them away quick enough. If you would like to have a couple, email me and we'll figure it out.

I've been growing them for at least 10 years, and never had one sick, ever.

I am never very picky about gritty mix. It is important for bonsai that the pieces are even size, but for normal sized plants it hasn't been anything to worry about. I mix turface of that size with pine bark fines and pea gravel. I don't screen or worry about the size differences. Is it optimal - no, but it's still better than regular potting soil, and easy to mix. I haven't tried clivia in it yet (expect to get my first seeds soon), but lots of other plants do great.
