What would you plant in front of the bougainvillea? Morning shade then lots of sun and light...

I bought "Hot lips" salvia this spring, and it is doing really good. It blooms all summer, constantly, and the little flowers actually do look like little lips, they are red and white.
Just a suggestion, I know they come in different varities, but I just so happened to like the red and white lips.
They take full sun, partial shade.

This little nook I think would look nicer with lower plants so the interesting trunk of the bougainvilla can be seen.
I see you have two loops of irrigation around the tree and a dense grower or two would help shield the moist soil from evaporation.

I would suggest 'ice plant' which echoes the color of the blooming bougainvilla mixed with white red and yellow forms of calibrachoa.
The ice plant closes it's bloom in the late afternoon or after sundown and is a semi succulent perennial. The calibrachoa closes somewhat at night but brings more color interest to the bed.
Here, the calibrachoa is a short term perennial- 3-5 years of annual return.

My favorite plant is my Roguchi Clematis. Blooms all spring, summer and fall ...little purple and lavender fairy bonnets.
