Why not both Joan? My Betty Corning is going bonkers this year and acts like it is going to swamp Warsaw Nike and Viola that it is planted with.

I agree why not get both. Actually,I was so happy when I found found Prince Charles here in Iowa as I can look and look and most of clematis I find are the the common ones.I already had Betty Corning on one side of a old pole so I put Prince Charles on the other side. So far he is holding his own.

Anyone from Calgary know if the nurseries have their clematis in yet. I will be disappointed if she comes home empty handed.

She actually called today to say she had checked with 3 different nurseries and they don't have Betty Corning. (Sad)

I didn't get BC, but she did bring me a Prince Charles... and a mighty fine one at that. Huge plant, that got the top part slightly damaged on the way home. I cut off the top part that got bent and will try to root them.

Sorry about Betty Corning Joan. I have purchased some akadama to try and root some clematis in like Ton had success with for some rare clematis that he was trying to propagate. Try and find out exactly what he did with it and I can always try and root some cuttings from my plant and send one on to you this fall or next spring.

Just view the damage to PC as pruning it to get more stems!

That's exactly what I was thinking "cuttings". The nursery suggested she cut it back for travel, but I told her no, I'd rather she bent the stems if she had to and use the top section to try cuttings. Hope you have luck with your akadama for cuttings. I've had success with tip cuttings in perlite.

Maybe I'll be lucky and find a BC locally. The first of the nurseries only open this weekend.
