I was doing some Spring trimming and in error, I cut this piece of Sweet Autumn Clematis. See pic 1

I'm hoping to "make lemonade" from my error and dig a hole and place these little leafed out nodules in it and hope they'll sprout roots. See pic 2

Am I totally wrong? Is there any hope for growing a new plant from my mistake?
