Last year I planted a small Nelly Moser clematis. It barely showed that it was alive, and just "treaded water" until the first frost. This spring, I pruned off parts that seemed dead and was rewarded with increased leafiness and now--oh boy!--I counted 4 white buds on this 18" high plant.
