I do not live in that area of SC but am familiar with it. In this present economic situation it might be best to visit and work with a realtor assessing the situation there. Rate of foreclosures? Study the various malls to see how many stores have closed, etc. As you know, there are numerous golf course/private communities, one of which is bankrupt, to which many northeners have retired and are confounded by southern growing conditions or they just want to pay to have property maintained. With Clemson in the area this may mean that there are a number of "landscape" businesses run by former students. A close study of the Yellow Pages would be helpful in determining just what the market may be. Retiring northeners not able to sell their homes has severely impacted southern house sales. This, of course, is true throughout the south including Florida.

If I were considering a move such as yours I would try to locate in an area with the most private communities where there is money and the need for the type of service you offer.

Nandina, that is excellent advise and includes some things I did not know and had not thought of. For instance, I wasn't aware that one of the golf course communities had gone bankrupt. Do you know which one? I did keep in mind the proximity to Clemson.
Still, these 'landscape' businesses would not really impact me. I am an old fashioned, dirty knees, down on the ground gardener. The mow and blow guys, around here, anyway, don't even want to do what I do...! I don't blame them, it is much easier to ride a lawnmower than to dig and weed and get bug-bitten!

We have the service you are offering down here in Aiken, SC.
They will come and plant anything for you, even a great vegetable garden.
There are many well to do people living around Aiken, so I guess there is a market for it.
