Passionflower with passion fruit. Another common name is Maypop. Great flowers, too.

Although I have never tried the fruit, Peterson's MEDICINAL PLANTS AND HERBS lists it as edible..."approved in Germany for nervous restlessness..." etc., just what we all need. They actually said the entire plant, roots and all, was edible, but at the end of the write up: "Potentially harmful in large amounts." There was also the caution icon next to the write up. I would check it out more before trying. I did see one of my mt. friends eat an azalea gall and some lichens, neither of which I would try UNLESS I was lost in the woods and starving. (And I don't harvest mushrooms, either. Not a risk taker I.)

I am from Ecuador where passion fruit is extremely popular. There we have the 'Golden Passionfruit' kind. It is big as an orange and bright yellow. We blended with water and other fruits to make fresh fruit juice. Or we simmer the fruit with oatmeal,cinnamon sticks, and other spices for couple hours, then strain the oats and cinnamon sticks. Cool in the refrigerator and serve with ice. Very refreshing and 100% natural!
