I have two daylilies coming soon and don't have room for them. I wonder if I can plant in the ground near my SAC? But about a foot or two away? Na the SAC would probably swallow the daylilies lol! Oh what to do, what to do?
I bought more campanula's today and planted them while my DH was taking his nap lol. He'll probably never notice anyways. lol

You are most definitely asking for help stopping buying in the wrong place!

I have a couple dozen daylilies sitting in pots right now because I don't know where to put them. Plus a couple dozen assorted perennials, a couple dozen bulbs, few heathers, few Clematis.....

In all honesty, you shouldn't be stopped but encouraged...if ever in doubt (which is why I am sure you posted this for other Clematisholics for mutual support) you can always come here...consider yourself on a mission to make the world a more beautiful place if only in your own gardens...I am a multi-taking obsessive collector for I can collect Clematis,Criniums,Roses and TONS of Daylilies all at the same time..once you have become a master-holic like me you can do the same..
ps..Clems can be planted climbing up shrubs..roses...Obelisks..so puhlease don't give us that "I don't have the space to go berserk with clematis!" I started saying that the 3rd year of designing my gardens and this is year 8..I finally said get over yourself gf for as long as there is a new clematis that "Zings" your heart you'll SQUEEZE that poor bugger in somewhere...LOL...Jeanne

Too bad the dillies don't grow tall enough to train the clems on like a shrub.

I have pots of dillies waiting to be planted that are leftovers from my dilly obsession several years back, before the hosta craze and the clems. (Now I'm into climbing roses to go with the clems.)

As the dillies started taking over the relatively small garden beds around the house, I made some beds down in the rocky field that were mostly for them. But now that I am, as my one son calls it "older than dirt", a couple of years ago I just didn't have the energy to troop down the hill to take care of them, and last year even to go down to look what was blooming. But as some of them were blooming I did appreciate more what a mature plant looks like and decided to make room for them somehow up top. I dug the blooming ones out and tried to get the labels that went with them. I tend to keep the little beds mostly of one color, and grouped the pots that way. But this Spring I moved around some of the pots and am not really sure of even what color they are.

Good thing most of them don't mind being in pots, even over the Winter, because if they don't bloom this Summer, they will be spending a lot of time in the pot ghetto.

You will be suprised how many clematis you can fit into a garden. Just keep looking... there's more room..... there's always more room ;)

I think this is so funny! I was in Lowe's the other day to get some deck scrub. The gardening center just called for me and I had to visit. Came home with five trees, phlox, two shrubs, some iris, and more. Didn't get a clematis though but definitely checked them out. I am truly addicted to my flowers. My husband won't say anything but if he does, I'll tell him I'm not buying a carton is cigs each week for $50.00 like he does. I said that once a long time ago when he did a little complaining and hasn't said much since. My flower gardens are such a delight to me. Cares melt when you kneel in a garden!

Oh Janet..from your Lips to my husbands Ears..LOL...I am always thinking of removing sod for more beds and to him..that LAWN is his crowning glory even if he doesn't have to mow it..He likes hearing the neighbors (the men) tell him what a purty green lawn he has and Oh how do you do it and no weeds too!!..If they only knew!!

You might be surprised how long daylilies can survive in a pot with minimal care. I have a few from years past and they are doing just fine. I had over 700 daylilies until the !@#$&^^$@!!! thistles got in my large daylily bed. I checked with my county extension guy and he said they are about impossible to eradicate. We think they arrived with the mushroom mulch. My daylily bed got very much smaller and now part of it is back to being a vegetable garden which gets tilled every spring and fall which helps very much with the thistle population. I now have approximately 100 daylilies, some in a bed of their own and some mixed with other perennials.

As far as clematis go - they go up, so you do not need much of a foot print. I have at least ten, and room for many more. The next one I will be getting is Huldine, but the one at the top of my list is Omoshiro but not available from anywhere I check. I, too, have some roses and many perennials.

You'll love Dr. Ruppel, I have it and last year my landscaping man fed it lime and pruned it in mid March 2009 and it was stunning last year. I didn't have him this March so it didn't get prunned back or fed and it's not as pretty this year. That Ramona is a red one, right? I like that one too, but I have a Westerplatte which is similar color as Niobe, and I'm looking for something in like a periwinkle blue color..I think Mr. President is that color.

I only have seven different clematis...I have tons of chain link fence to grow them on. Half an acre or so surrounded by chain link fence, 5 1/2 ft tall. Most of it is in shady areas, but there are patches of sun. I could go crazy with clematis, I have so much fence to use to grow them on. But, I can't go crazy with clematis, just can't! I already have the daylily, hosta and heuchera/heucherella/tiarella crazies. Ah, what's one more crazy, right? Maybe throw in some climbing roses. Ah, gardening!

I do not have them all written down or counted but I have collections of huechera/tiarellas, ferns, dwarf rhododendrons, brunneras, hostas, hardy fuchsias, daylilies, daffodils, clematis, ornamental grasses, dwarf waterlilies, caryopteris, iris, species tulips, crocus, oriental lilies and I don't even know what else. I have very few plants that aren't part of a some time crazies.

Bonafide addict here, of both daylilies and clematis. I just bought two more clematis at Lowe's: H.F. Young, which I've grown before and loved, and Snow Queen. I have only seven of them, but I live in a condominium! And I have 22 daylilies. We're not supposed to change the landscaping here, but I just keep taking out a little more grass at a time, and everyone loves my garden (laugh) so they never say anything to me.

One year I couldn't decide where to plant a daylily that someone had given me, so I just set it aside. Well next thing I knew, it was covered in snow and ice. Would you believe it is still there in that same place, and growing like gangbusters??!!

I have 14 roses.

I have 7 clems now, and all of them are in gallon pots either from last year, or just put there from little 4in pots. I also help my mom take care of hers (I got all of them for her) and she has 6. I'm going to keep a lookout at Lowes for the "used and abused" discount clems that they forget to water around the middle of June.
