Guest room and office are easy to merge; a nursery is another room altogether. If you have a baby, use the room as the baby's room and nothing else. You can always squeeze an office in your bedroom, the kitchen or a corner of the living room.

Seems the trouble with combining the baby's room with an office is the baby's sleep schedule. The same would be true of combining it with a guest room unless your guest would retire and rise with the baby's evening schedule. If the guests will only be the grandparents the may be willing to tiptoe in and make some concessions, but let's hope they don't snore and keep the baby awake. How much space do you have?

Here's a nursery that is baby friendly while being sophisticated enough to act as a multi purpose guest room or study. I like feeny's idea of the day bed.

Is that some kind of superstition, Vikrant? Because black and white combinations with pastels in nurseries are classic, and black and white contrasts are what babies eyes register first, long before colors.

Wow, you are amazing. This is our second and we are definitely running out of room. I like the ideas very much of doing a day bed - to save the room - fill the bed with a bunch of pillows to make it look more couch like.

As for the usage - I was thinking it would be for grandparents mostly who (fingers crossed) would mind getting up with the little one.

I'm honestly not a huge fan of yellow but don't mind the black - maybe do a mint green?

Colors like mint or aqua or gray blue are lovely nursery colors (and, again, neutral enough for offices and guest rooms).

mkinzel...glad you posted this question. Something I have been mulling over in my mind for several months. HOWEVER, my situation is reversed...WE are the grandparents and need to set up a place for baby to sleepover on occasion. The only place we have is the current combination office, which also has a (YUCK dare I type this) treadmill in it., and guest room. Most of the guests that use the room are younger so we have been able to get by with one of those instant air beds. Not good for baby. Baby has outgrown pack and play, so we need space for a crib or toddler bed (baby is now walking!) Or, use a twin with guardrails on the outside.

We have a medium cocoa brown room with white trim. I am thinking of using an old daybed or old twin bed that are in the attic as the guest/baby's bed. IF I go that route, the beds will be painted either a very pale turquoise or black. The twin is wood and will get distressed with either color.

You could possibly use brown, turquoise and black colors for your room.

I would scrap the guest room purpose (buy an air mattress!) Get a computer armoire with a fold out desk for the office function, and mostly have it be the baby's room. You'll spend a lot of time in there with him/her and you'll want it to be cute!
