Three days and more open up.

Well after working three 12+ hour days I go outside and quite a few things are coming along nicely. I have had to start watering since the temps have gotten higher and we haven't had any decent rainfall for over a week now.

Tie Dye is starting to put on quite a show with many more blooms to come along. The first shot not as good as others but I was trying to have it backlit as the sun was coming up.

A few blooms starting on Avant Garde. It is showing the weird coloration on some of the tepals that some clematis often do when the weather changes during bud formation.

Fascination continues but still no chocolate fragrance to the blooms that I can detect.

Another addisonii plant is beginning to bloom. Both this plant and the other one that started blooming earlier and is still in bloom are developing mildew already! Yuck!!

A not so terrific shot of Etoile Rose. I am sure mildew is in its future as it is a perpetual mildew magnet for me.

A clematis I can never get a decent photo of is Blekitny Aniol. It is paired with Kermesina which is just starting to bloom.

beautiful!

duchess of albany looks stunning! i just got her last year - i hope she'll eventually provide me such a show as yours does.

and isn't avant garde cute with those mottled green tepals.. i love it when that happens..

Miguel, your blooms are lovely! I especially like the backlit photo of Tie Dye. It has that beautiful ethereal look. The Duchess is putting on a very regal show!

Miguel, it is such a shame your addisonii gets mildew, Duchess of Albany is absolutely magnificent.
Do the flowers stay in that tulip shape or do they open up more?
Do you have any pics of one fully open?

ROFL BorS, it has rained all day here but we don't get it like you do. I hope the sun shines for you tomorrow. I finally have some blooms popping but can't get out there to snap some pictures till it dries up.

That Tie Dye is awesome. Another one I'd love to have. I'm soon gonna have to start replacing a more favorite with one not so well liked if I am lucky enough to get my hands on my must haves. Your DoA is giving a great show too. My Dawn has been in bud for what seems like a month, but maybe due to all the cold weather and rain, hasn't opened up yet. Sooon I think though.

Helen, the blooms on DoA pretty much stay that shape. The blooms of Gravetye Beauty tend to open up more in my garden but those of DoA and Princess Dianna pretty much stay in tulip form. Yep, mildew has already raised its ugly head here. Even the stems of some of the Tie Dye blooms have mildew on them! YUCK!!!!

Send the rain here BorS. I watered for several hours yesterday and am doing so as I type. Supposed to be in the 90s all week here. I hate summer (and it is not even summer yet) when it doesn't rain. Looks like another very dry season here much like last year. I would love to be outside in the rain right now!

Beautiful! What is the other clematis planted with Tie Dye?
I just ordered Fascination and Duchess of Albany and am anxiously waiting for them. What suggestions would you have on a planting location for the Duchess in terms of room to sprawl?

Gardengirl, that is Abundance with Tie Dye.

Duchess of Albany originally was supposed to climb a white wooden trellis that I had on the backside of the house. Right in front of the trellis is a japanese maple that has gotten bigger than I thought it would so DofA climbs the trellis and then jumps onto the japanese maple and an Otto van Luyken laurel. It is one vigorous clematis so I would give it plenty of room to sprawl. If I had known what I know now about DofA, it would have been planted elsewhere.

Here is a shot of it back in 2004 when it was still a young plant.

Thanks for the warning about DoA. I will look for a good spot to let her ramble. Your Abundance looks gorgeous! I planted one a couple of years ago and it's one of the less vigorous ones I have. I pinched it back some this year to try and get it going so we'll see what happens.
