Most clematis won't bloom with less than 4-5 hours of sun minimum. In general they bloom more with more sun. It will also depend some on the quality of your shade; if it is bright shade, such as caused by a white building, it will be much brighter than shade caused by overhanging trees. Your clematis will be happier with brighter shade.

Regardless, you probably won't see blooms for a year or three since you said it is small. For the first couple of seasons prune it hard (like a type3) to get it to put out more stems and you will have a bushier plant in its third year, and therefore more blooms.
