I agree with decoenthusiaste, my first thought was the furniture is too dark to exude a light, breezy Florida feel. Hopefully slip covers can be a good solution to get started.

I like your yellow and green accent pillows, so maybe just go with a linen couch and bright upholstered chairs. Make the built-ins or other furniture white to keep it light.

A simple shelf style built-in constructed of wood would be less expensive than what you are proposing. You would need to have a carpenter build the structure for your entertainment unit and then you would need to hire a plasterer as well to box everything in drywall. I agree with the other folks posting here that you need some light neutral furnishings and colorful accessories to brighten up your Florida room.

So many styles of indoor wicker or rattan. I tried to find a sample but there were so many choices. They all had nice thick cushions that would be comfy. That would give your room more of the florida room look or garden room. Just type indoor wicker into google and lots of options pop up

I think a different valance and shade would be better. The current one is too dark. Light yellow, coastal blue or green, even a bright orange could work depending on your taste and the color of your new furniture.

I am going to go with the white wooden shades but what should i do about the valance, i don't know if i should go light in furniture because of my 2 shorkies, i was thinking leather maybe on the couch?

My suggestion for wall colors would be light blue, blue gray, turquoise. Keep sofa furniture neutral and add color with pillows. I would not go with leather - I'm always nervous about damaging leather, and it's not really a tropical look. I would go to Ikea and purchase two tall bookcases (they come in white and wood veneer) and place on either side of your tv unit. Decorate your shelves with books and other interesting collectibles, but don't overpack them with "stuff". Dont forget to decorate the very top shelf.

For your art work, I would make a grouping on another wall. You can probably find a large print at Ikea that you can use above the TV and tie in the bookshelves and tv. Would also remove the valence and replace with either long drapes on either side - sheers or an open weave. Let me know what you think.

I think art work is a great idea. But why limit yourself to ikea. You can get great artwork from artisans that reside in the United States and other countries. There is a huge selection on Etsy.com. I have an Etsy shop, nancyhehmann and I customize selections to meet your needs beause I have accounts at more than one nationally recognized photo lab. You can have your choice in color or black and white. It can be mounted or not. You also could choose canvas or aluminum. And if you don't like what my shop has there are many other Etsy shops with decorator items from coasters to plaques, paintings, photography, chalk boards, mirrors. Much more selection than at Ikea. Oh and in Oct, I will have more of a selection - from Paradise on Earth. My shop is nancyhehmann and I have a lot of photography posted on Houzz. I have more files of some of the subjects that I have not posted. I have not yet posted all of my lighthouses or other photography from Key West. Photography can add a pop of color (if you choose to do color) that can be a real wow factor. I am looking at a Tybee Island lighthouse right now. And I awaken to St. Thomas. In our office, it is Key West. Talk about uplifting, I am always in a good mood looking at beautiful places!!

Of course original art/photography is always a better option, and is one I prefer, but if my client is on a budget, Ikea, Home Goods are great places to start looking.

Just wanted them to know about Etsy.com b/c it is such a great option for a wide variety of items and a lot are reasonably priced. A lot of American artisans have items on there. I did not know about it till a year ago myself and it is an amazing site.

I agree, Etsy is a great website - my daughter has some of her jewelry line on Etsy.
