I am sure it will be just fine. Keep it well watered and mulched and it will send up new shoots this summer. Breaking off the tip of your shoot will make your vine branch and you will end up will 2 shoots instead of one which is better anyway.

Just hope that you planted it deeper by a couple of inches in the ground then it was in its original container as this buries dormant nodes that will put out those new shoots.

Thanks for the info. The only thing is if I add the rest of the dirt the new tiny shout from the roots will be buried so I did cover that. Should I cover that new shout?

Yes, bury the whole thing if that is what it takes to get it 3-4" deeper than what it was in the nursery pot. Set it on an angle too, not straight up and down.

Supposed to encourage more stems to grow from the buried stems.

You want Clematis to have as many stems/vines as possible.

Left alone they often produce one long scraggly vine. You want dozens coming up instead.
