Fall pruning??

The HOA board where I live is proposing painting the houses' exteriors this fall. I have many clems climbing trellises next to the walls. Which is the lesser of two evils: hard-prune them all before the painters arrive in order to minimize the damage from being stepped on, etc., or leave them alone and watch the painters like a hawk while they're working?

I'd hard prune. I'm going to do it myself as my husband is putting new siding on our house.

I think a clean cut is less severe than being ripped or torn or trampled which is likely with painters.

I would trim them and put overturned buckets over root system and top them with some heavy stones so painters can't dislodge them easily
