A self sown seedling

We get a few new volunteers each year. The good bloomers get named after Deb. She has been getting vexed that I refused to let her name one. I label the photos and upload them. I decided to upload one of the new ones to our seedling clematis album the other day. Deb asked me 'pretty please' to use her name for it *sigh*

Davy is what I was called as I grew up and that is what family still calls me. Deb loves it. Dad is Dave. LOL, how embarrassing. Oh well, Deb is pleased now :)

Dr Ruppel and Ramona have been growing in that area for a dozen years now. I suspect they may be the parents, at least one of them.

Deb's Delight is another that came up in the same area.

DD doesn't develop a central bar like Dr Ruppel does. Another volunteer started there this spring. Wonder what the blooms on it will look like...

I really like your seedlings. I have seen photo's of DD before and thought it was beautiful. Davy is, I guess it would have to be called "handsome" :-). I think your clematis must be as happy as your roses.

Carol, I tried to convince Deb that this seedling needed to be named for her since it was so gorgeous. I like it as much as any of our clematis. To me, it is the best of our seedlings so far. The color changes as you view it from different angles too. I like simple with clematis. Deb likes the gaudy critters. Davy looks like what I think a clematis should look like. Does that make sense?

Miguel, I consider that high praise coming from you :) This is the rebloom. The spring flush was good and I just recalled some of the spring blooms seemed like they were trying to be double. They looked odd to me but Deb loved them. Belle of Woking is just across the aisle from Davy. I wondered back then if it was a Ramona x Belle of Woking cross. I'll never be sure. Just something I remember thinking about.

Your seedlings are very beautiful. I enjoy raising clematis from seed also, and have gotten many beautiful seedlings over the years. It is a lot of fun to see what you will get. It is amazing to see the variability in the seedlings from the same parent plant.

Thank you :) The best clematis we have grown from seed are the volunteers I can't take credit for. They did the work themselves.

I would love to get volunteer seedlings Dave! Especially if they were anything but sweet autumn clematis. This year I have solved the problem by cutting the plant back to 1/3 of its original size after the blooming ceased. Now I can be certain I am getting all of those seeds off early enough.

Great idea that Miguel. I should do the same with tangutica's Radar Love!!. Wish I could reach that high!!

Try using a step ladder Dana! LOL I remember your picture of Radar Love. You would definitely need it unless you did as I did with SAC. I just started cutting low and pulling vines out of the trellis.
