Weekend Trivia -- Saturday

This morning I can see that it's kind of dark at six a.m. compared to a month ago. I'm not really ready to think about what that means season-wise. I'll type up today's trivia, and then go outside to pick some zucchini and some pumpkin blossoms to take to market this morning.

Dateline Palo Alto California August 15, 2008-

DNA testing failed to confirm the identity of a mammal from north Georgia as claimed by Tom Biscardi, who has a business selling objects related to this mammal. One of the samples was human and the other was 96 percent oppossum.

Can you guess the mammal?

I think I know this one but won't stick my foot in it yet.M

    Me too M.

I've not been able to make sense of this 'find.'
It has all the trappings of a hoax, IMO.

When we were in sixth grade, more than 50 years ago, a scientist from the GA State Crime Lab came to our school.
One of the things that left a big impression on me was a 'little man from Mars' in a huge lab jar of formaldehyde.
Two men shaved a monkey and cut off his tail, then tried to pass him off as something they saw exit a flying saucer.

Yeah, right, and DNA testing hadn't been invented 'way back then.

Oh I'm on to this as well!! In this day and age, you'd think people would stop trying!! lol. And with all the photo enabled phones out there, you'd think we'd have proof by now!!! lol.

    Nancy.

The Georgia boys trying to pass this one off are two steps past pathetic - what ARE they thinking ?????

Know what you mean about days dawning later TM! Dog-sitting again this weekend, she woke me at 4:15 to go out; mean old me made her wait until 5:30.

I didn't see this trivia item, so can legitimately guess? OK, my first thought was "are armadillos mammals?", and aren't most of the sequenced genomes within 1% for mammals? Then I got a whiff of National Equirer. Is it yet another Elvis sighting?

Can't make that fit with clues Mora, Annette and Nancy may have dropped. Nell's usually good for a pun, is that somehow "trapped in a box, I can't get outÂ"? Well, someone's gotta go first with a foolish guess ;-)

Palo Alto CA? I remember when Interstate 280 went in between San Francisco and San Jose. Gorgeous highway before any heard of Silicon Valley. Crosses over the mile-long Stanford Linear Accelerator building, potential source of genetic-altering particles?

    Mothman?!

    Lorna

Ana, Martha doesn't want to put her foot in it and I sadly on occasion have had to extract one of these from my mouth LOL.

    Annette

OK, thanks (?) Annette, something with teeth? Alligators are reptiles and moths are  well, not mammals. Maybe Lorna forgot the 'u' in Mouthman. Just kidding L, this won't be the first time I've gotten my hoof stuck in my mouth.

Still don't get the Georgia connection. (OK to disclose, We're as much about learning as being right?) Dictionary says armadillos are mammals.

(Hi zigzag: you're a fairly new name to me.)

Ana, who's gonna shut up now before any mutant moths fly in her mouth.

Ohhhh...I'm keeping my size 12's out of this!!!

I'm embarrassed to say my DH loves it when the media starts talking about this kind of stuff. I think he halfway believes the nonsense. And no, we don't want to buy any (Swamp) land in Florida!!!

He also watches that "Ghost Hunter" series on TV with unhealthy interest, IMHO!
    Vikki

Well, I'm undisciplined in Thinman's Weekend Trivia protocol, so best I take my cues from the veterans and keep my foot out of my mouth too!

(Hi right back to Solana - I'm fairly new here and trying not to be a nuisance. Where in NH are you? I'm from MA.)

    :o)

I'm glad I'm not too late to guess Thinman's trivia question for Saturday. I almost forgot about it.

Everyone's giving lots of hints about feet, so I'm going to go right out on a limb and guess Bigfoot (aka Sasquatch). But I thought they were from the PNW, not Georgia. (Right, and listen to me talking about them as if they actually exist, sheesh!)

Yea, Bigfoot is supposed to be in the PNW, and Chucucabre is supposed to be below the Mexican border. I can't think of anything else left reputed to be in the US except mothMAN (thus the mammal).

Vikki, I love "Ghost Hunters" and their new offshoot, "GHI". Saw a good one about Elizabeth Bathory, the Blood Countess the other night. She is said to have killed 650 young Hungarian women!

    Lorna

Bigfoot aka Sasquatch it is, that little item has been on the news up here too. Every few years this raises it's head again.

    Annette

Yep, it's Bigfoot. Now the hard part: trying to figure out who knew it from their clever clues.

Annette definitely knew it, cuz she said it. Martha clued us in about the foot (and maybe the 'yet' for yeti?). Nancy said she was on to this, and since we operate on the honor system here, she is a winner (also size twelves). Zigzag and Dawiff have it right. (Welcome Zigzag, and belated welcome to Dawiff.)

    for you all.

I'm pretty sure that Nell was trying to tell us something, but I'm not quite bright enough to figure it out. Nell, please tell us what clever thing you were saying and claim your stars, too.

If I missed anyone, please set me straight. Lorna, did you know?

Vikki - Sorry about your DH's strange interest. It could be worse. He could be watching Big Brother.

Actually, I didn't have a pun, nor could I figure out what this thing they found really was.

I'm thinking from the DNA reports and the photos I saw of something in a freezer, that they stuffed a cheap Go-rilla suit with dead possums. Thinking that reminded me of the story of the little-man-from-Mars hoax.

One report said they found this thing 7.5 miles into woods that nobody had explored. That is hard to believe in this age of ATV's. Some kid on an ATV went full bore through a chainlink fence across a Georgia pipeline one night last week. Tore up the fence, broke off a post, never came back, according to the owner of the fence. Maybe he was chasing, or being chased by, Bigfoot.

    Nell

Nope, TM, I didn't think Big Foot was said to roam in the Southern States. Thought his supposed range ended around Colorado. I rarely watch the news, so I hadn't heard about the hoax.

The last dog I adopted was named Yetti by her first owners because she was a fluff ball of fur (half Samoyed, half heeler). Named after the Abominable Snowman, how awful. I hated that name! I renamed her Sara.

    Lorna

OK, not 12's, but it suited the subject!!!

Nancy - who has size 9/10's, btw.

Me too Nancy, 9/10s' I wouldn't be so short if my legs hadn't slipped under, I'd better quit while I'm ahead, the heat is starting to get to me. Rain is just around the corner and it's supposed to be a bit cooler in a couple of days, not soon enough for me.

Annette... who really doesn't like it when it starts to hit the 90's

Glorious day here. We stacked wood, Molly the lab helped.

ZZ~ I'm in SW NH on the CT river. You? ~Ana
