You probably shouldn't expect a determination about the edibility of a mushroom on a forum, and certainly not from just one photograph. There are lots of shrooms that look similiar to this at first glance, but proper ID requires a good look at gills, stems, etc.

Late summer and fall are prime times for the appearance of a wide variety of different kinds of common mushrooms.

For general purposes, you should consider all mushrooms as toxic unless you become an expert or are with one. Or at the grocery store. If you still want an ID, provide some of the physical details we need.

They were gone by yesterday afternoon. My neighbor cut his grass at the same time mine was being cut, his got bigger and lasted longer than mine so I can't get more details.

If more pop up, I'll try to get a look at the underside, but don't expect any, they are funny that way.

I wouldn't eat them, was just curious.

I do not know the name of this shroom but I know you can't eat them. This one is poison. At least thats what gramps said long long ago. and he would eat many mushrooms. But not this one.

I forgot I posted this, I thought I put it in some fungi forum and it shows up here in the moss, ferns and long word I never heard of.

I'll take your gramps' word for it! I always kind of wished I'd studied shrooms a little more, but it would take a heck of a lot of confidence before I would eat any without expert advice.

The neighbors used to get morels, and I ate those, but what if they were wrong? I guess they at least knew that one, but I am not eating any strange shrooms just because somebody says they're ok unless . . .sometimes I wonder about those odd ones in the store :-). I adore those regular little ones you get in the plastic cartons and straw ones and black ones in Chinese restaurants. Now I don't think I've tried the Portobello ones yet.
