Yes, dahlias would be a great choice for a roadside stand. You can get great deals on bulbs if you shop around. Also, on-line you can find other information, have you checked the Dahlia discussion group here for ideas? Banner Flower Farm sells Dahlis wholesale with no minimum. They also sell at Farmer's Markets so they would have a great selection that would hold up well for you. I sell hundreds of dahlias each summer and keep adding different varieties each year. I have 64+ different ones that hold up well for cutting or I just had to have because I thought they were beautiful. Good luck.

Do you sell dahlias by the stem? How much for each?

I never knew I could do them -- I thought they'd be too expensive -- but I'm going to go look @ that site right now! I figured I'd do zinnias, but I've never had luck w/ their leaves --- I get powdery mildew every year, even in last year's historic DROUGHT, and even when watering only @ the bottoms ------ so thank you!!

I sell them at the roadside stand a dozen mixed with some greens, statice and maybe something else in a bouquet for $3.50, I know what a bargain, but I set the price in this town for roadside bouquets. We have five or so other stands around. I sell to the florists $6.00 for a ten these of course are top notch quality, not that my stand flowers aren't quality, they are always fresh and free from blemishes, etc.
I don't know where you live but I planted Benary's Giant Zinnias last year in the greenhouse which got some days 90 - 100 degrees, because I forgot to open the doors, and then I was able to water the soil not the plants and never got mold on them.
