Hmmmmmmmm . . . maybe this isn't the right forum . . .

Right forum, just not much activity right now. I love the pineapple sage but it doesn't bloom for me until the last few weeks before frost. I do use the big bushy blue ones (Mind is blank as to names this morning) but this one comes in Cambridge blue, Black and Blue, and another blue and has quite strong odor. IT does look gorgeous in late season bouquets, and if the leaves are stripped then it does not smell too bad once it is settle into the bouquet. I have not found a short salvia that I like, except for "Denim blue" clary sage. THat is the only color I find really useful for my work. I hope some otherw will chime in after the holidays are over and the mind can turn toward spring!

Don't know about best, but I grew Blue Bedder for the first time this year and was impressed, great vase length, will hold up in cooler. After first cut-back greater stem length achieved. It's extremely productive but has to be cut real early in the morning or last thing in evening or it wilts (in Tx anyway). Used Prof 2 solution with it. This next year I've trying the Marble Arch Series.

We love Johnny's Salvia farinacea Gruppenblau. It's the same look as blue bedder, but in a shorter plant. The 2 foot stems are long enough for us; it's very prolific and looks great with most everything. I do strip the foliage - it smells BAD, just like the leaves of blue bedder.

The somewhat interesting fact about Blue Bedder is that although it is listed as an annual, it does, however, winter over for us here -- most years. As a grower, this is most welcome because it means that we have very nice, and very tall blooms earlier in the season. This is followed later in the season, by blooms from the plugs that we plant out in the field in May.
