I need the help of experts on this one! Looking for evergreen or broadleaf shrubs to be used as a privacy screen. Zone 6. Summer sun from 9:30 to noon and again from 1:30 to 5:00. Max height of said hedge about 10'. Area to be planted about 20' long. Here's the catch.........much of this hedge (and I use the term loosely) would be in the vicinity of a HUGE SUGAR MAPLE!!!! Is there anything that would grow there and how close to the trunk can it get? I know that maples suck all of the water and nutrients out of the soil, but maybe there's a magic shrub I haven't heard of that can take it! Any suggestions other than a large fence or should I just shoot myself and get it over with. Thanks ahead for your input.....Jack
