Location, location, location

I'm looking for an evergreen to provide some backyard privacy. It will be western exposure, full sun and I have the typical Ohio clay soil. There is a 8 foot deep shrub bed that extends across the back that is fairly wet in the winter/spring, but completely dries out to huge cracks in the summer. I would like to plant the evergreen in front of this bed. How far away from this bed depends on the specific tree. Previous homeowner had three white pines die in this location. Within 25 feet in one direction is a little leaf Linden and 25 feet in the other direction is a mature maple. I'm partial to a Norway because of its tolerance to clay and water, but am afraid it would quickly outgrow the space. The further away from the shrub bed I go, the drier it gets but it's also more exposed. Do I have any evergreen options?
