Well since I'm fairly new to daylilies I've already started adding to mine.

I was looking for a couple of my friends on here to see if they wanted to do some trades with me but no one responded. LOL I guess I don't have enough money to interest anyone in the older daylilies. (grin)

    Hi Marian!
    That's quite a list! Of those that you have ordered, I grow Darling Dilemma (great plant habit), Elizabeth Salter (elegant bloom), and Yazoo Jim Terry (great blooms, grows like a weed). Of those you are going to order, I grow Inherited Wealth, Emerald Splendor, Janice Brown, and Rainbow Eyes.
    I divided Inherited Wealth and Janice Brown pretty heavily last year for our Daylily Club public sale, but I may have some Emerald Splendor and Rainbow Eyes to trade come spring.
    I am adding Stamile's Picture in Picture. I just love it and went ahead and splurged. I'm still shopping...but space is limited in my yard, so I have to be careful.

    Marian, you've chosen some great ones to begin your "addiction" with! :) I have about 25 or so of those. Here's a few I've got coming this spring:
    Darling Of Heaven (Bell 07)
    {{gwi:654442}}
    Harvest Sky (Bell 04)
    {{gwi:654443}}
    Born To Run (Stamile 06)
    {{gwi:654444}}
    Reflections Of Glory (Bell 07)
    {{gwi:654445}}
    Love Spills Over (Bell 06)
    {{gwi:654446}}
    Lone Wolf (Grace/Smith 04)
    {{gwi:654447}}
    Beside Still Waters (Bell 05)
    {{gwi:654448}}
    That's just the beginning, I've also ordered lots of Munsons for my collection and lots of other dl's too. As you can see from my choices above, I really love Tim Bell's cv's and am trying to add lots of them to my garden this year.
    Happy Planting,
    Jan

    That's a great list of plants you have coming! I grow quite a few of those on your lists, but my favorites are Magic Carpet Ride (best red I grow), Calypso Bay (beautiful color), Yazoo Elsie Hinton (a whopper of a flower), Autumn Wood (unique) and Inherited Wealth (just a beauty).

    I have too many coming to list, but I'm down to my last few to order. Arctic Lace is one I'm still planning to purchase.

    Marian, that is a great list you have coming! They ALL do wonderfully here, as I hope they will in Texas. Jan, you are getting some beauties this Spring. Tim Bell has some wonderful daylilies and all I have tried grow well here. He is also one of my very favorite people to deal with. You can buy with confidence from Tim Bell! While looking at your pictures all lined up, I noticed a lot of these cultivars have a watermark eyezone! Hmmm... Ida

  • 18 years ago

    LOL....yes Ida, lots of them do have the watermarks....hmmmm..do you think I have some crosses in mind using some of my Munsons maybe? :)
    Don't know about the rest of you, but I can't wait for spring!!!! I'm getting the itch to be outside digging...so much so..that I think I might do some winter sowing this weekend with some of my dl seed from last season..heck, I might even break out my tiller and start getting some beds ready for planting..supposed to be in the 60's here.
    Come on spring!!!

    Oh Jan those you have posted above are out of this world. Of course they are out of my price budget right now. I have to buy the older daylilies so I can get more bang for my buck.

    Actually there are many older daylilies that are just as lovely as some of the newer ones. I'm just happy that some of them are affordable for old folks on a fixed income. LOL

    Since I have plenty of space 35+ acres on this old farm I can add as many as I can get/afford. I've scraped and saved from Christmas gifts to buy those listed above. It's wonderful when folks give you either money or garden stuff instead of sweaters, pj's and so forth for yor gifts. Now if I could just train them to buy me some of the higher priced daylilies I'd have it made. (grin)

    Boy do I know the feeling of wanting to get out and work in the beds. Yesterday I took a quick stroll around the place to see what all needed some attention. Unfortunately it looks as tho the whole place could use some TLC. I just hate the winter m onths. All the weak tree limbs fall off, most of my plants are sleeping, and the weather is so yucky.

    Come on Spring, or at least some decent weather so I can get outside and do a few things.

    Happy Gardening Ya'll.
    Marian
    P.S. Jan, I'm getting those daylilies from your friends. D and I.

  • 18 years ago

    Oh good for you Marian....I'm getting some of the "Candy" series from Ida also. Started a candy bed last fall and needed to add some more to it. I've got 18 of the series, and I'm getting about 6 more from Ida. Someday, I'll have them all, but, I haven't gotten the newest ones. Dream Candy is the latest one I have to date.
    I hate the winter months too...everything looks so bleak doesn't it? I do have some camelia's beginning to bloom however, they will brighten up my view from my great room windows. :)
    You know, I need to drop a few hints about my "needs" for Christmas next year....you'd think my folks would know what I "need" for Christmas by now, wouldn't you? LOL Or maybe they think I have too many already...LOL

    I have a few you just got-Evening Enchantment, Daring Delimma, Savannah Deb, Autumn Wood, Fairy Tale Pink. All except Daring D have been doing well. Last year in the heat DD faded down to 1 fan. Hoping it comes back ok this year. This year I'm looking for daylilies with names of family members, so those may be older ones like Skinny Minnie, Mary Mary, or something with Irene. Hoping to trade for those.

  • 18 years ago

    I am ordering 10 royal saracen from Flynns as soon as she lets me know if they have enough in stock. Now just need to find the perfect yellow to go with those. Any ideas folks?
    Jill

  • 18 years ago

    Jill, have you seen Omomuki, an older one by Stamile ....it's a beautiful yellow and a great performer. I got it from Ida a couple of years ago, and love it. I think that shade of yellow would be lovely with RS.
    Here's a photo of it from my garden.
    {{gwi:654449}}
    If you're looking for a yellow Munson, Ruffled Dude is a nice soft shade of yellow.
    {{gwi:654451}}
    Mal is more of a cream with a yellow throat, but would also be lovely with RS, and it's a great garden performer as well.
    {{gwi:654453}}
    There's tons of others, these are just 3 that came to mind.

  • 18 years ago

    Yes I did look at the 1st one but wanted someones advice that has them in their garden. Now I got to see if Ida has plenty of both .
    Jill

  • 18 years ago

    Those are all lovely Jan. Shoot, I'm just excited to be able to get some more to add to the ones I got last year.

    I will have to say that you and another peson on this forum are ENABLERS. LOL You know that some of us just lurk in the background reading and looking at ya'lls post. Drooling the entire time and thinking...one of these day's I'll have that daylily. (Yeah Right)

    Anyway I'm so excited about what I will be getting as soon as they began to ship.

    I may have to make a third list and order. That maybe how I spend my extra income if there is any from Mr. BUSH. Don't you all think that me buying daylilies for my flowerbeds will help our economy? Oh well if nothing else it will make my place a little more BEAUTIFUL. (grin)

    Why in the world did I have to wait till I was so old to get started growing one of the most beautiful flowers around? I guess because mainly all I ever saw in this part of the country were those old fashion ditch lilies. (grin) Your never to old to want to be surrounded by something beautiful blooming.

    It is cold (freezing) and raining here today. Nasty weather and is suppose to get worse tonight. I've feed the poor little birds and broke the ice off their feeders twice today. I'm not going back out in the mess. Those little wel-fare birds are going to have to fend for themselves until tomorrow morning.

    Ya'll stay warm and sweet dreams of Gardening!

    didn't order, but won some auctions from Plantastik on the DL Auction and just received them yesterday. What a surprise I had when I opened up my mailer and lo and behold, not only did I receive the seeds I won, but 4 additional bonus crosses, with a HUGE number of seeds! I think I received triple the quantity of won seeds as bonuses.

    I have so many of several crosses, I am going to winter sow some, and give some from at least 3 crosses away to friends to try growing.

    One of my favorites last year was Temple Goddess, you should see if it would work well in your area Marian. It seemed to rebloom a lot, & very pretty. It should be pretty inexpensive I would think & worth the money.

  • 18 years ago

    Thanks for the suggestion Nancy. Maybe I'll get it as a bonus. Hint Hint. LOL

    I'll have to go look up a picture of it. I don't even know what it looks like.

    It may already be on my other list shoot I don't know. It's not here where I can look at it.

    Actually I want just about every PINK daylily I see. I love them all but Pink is my very favorite color. For some reason I'm always drawn to the pink with yellow edges. Ahhh they are breathtaking. Now if I can just get my hands on a few of them I'll die happy. LOL

    Happy Daydreaming about daylilies!

    lovelyiris,

    That's quite a nice list of beauties! I only have one of those:
    {{gwi:654455}}
    FAIRY TALE PINK

    I got this from Jan last year, and it's already one of my favorites. It's so soft and elegant looking, but it's a tough plant.

    Laurel

  • 18 years ago

    WEll that's a lovely one Laurel. I always lean toward the pinks with some yellow in them. I don't know why, it's just a color combination that I really like.

    Pink being my favorite color might have a tiny bit to do with it.

    I'll have to look and see how much Fairy Tale Pink is. Grin

    Thanks for sharing the photo.

    One of my favorite pink and yellow's is Big Smile. It has a large flower and is relatively inexpensive. You might want to check out the Lily Auction - a lot of the older daylilies are there for reasonable prices - of course the new ones are listed also!!! I really like the "pure" pinks, not ones with lavender overtones and I don't find a lot of them. But will keep looking. Anyone have any suggestions? I just won Ribbons and Things on the LA and hope it is as "pink" as pictured. Come on Spring although I have a lot longer wait than you do Jan, lots of snow here in lower Michigan.

    I went back and forth between Fairy Tale Pink and Pearlfisher Pink while ordering. I ended up deciding on PfP with FTP as alternate if she doesn't have enough of PfP--primarily because I also ordered Barbara Mitchell which is an offspring of FTP with similar looks.

    Marian,
    Ellen @ Banner Daylily Garden has a clump sale going- FTP is $10 for a clump of at least 6f. That's about the best price I found for it. It's usually in the $6-8/df range at most places. Ellen has a lot of other pinks too.

    My most resent order was for Milk Chocolate (Carney '67). I love the color blends. (pix from Tinkers). Hard to imagine why it took so long to win an HM (2000).

    I've got a couple true pinks that I like - 'Border Crossing' and 'Heart of Jade.' They're not peachy at all, they're very "true" pink.

    {{gwi:654459}}
    Heart of Jade (First flower of the year, so its form isn't the best, but it shows the color well)

    {{gwi:647077}}
    Border Crossing

    I also really like 'Chenango Rose,' hybridized not too far from here:
    {{gwi:651109}}

    Last year there was a whole thread about favorite pinks - I'm sure you'd expand your wish list by dozens if you check it out. I'll try to attach it below.

    Berrytea4me, or anyone else. I wrote the Banner Daylily site and gave them an order. I have not heard a cheap back from them.

    Does anyone know how to get in contact witht them to see if they got my order? Wondering minds want to know these things. Besides I would need to know how much my bill was and where to send the check to.

    Thanks in advance for any help.
    Happy Daydreams about daylilies and extended blooms.

    Ellen was out of town. She just posted feedback for me yesterday so I know she's back at her computer. My guess is you'll hear from her very soon.
