Comments (4)If you use an 'inset sink' rather than 'under mount' sink this would allow generous sealing under and around the sink. I would discuss this idea with a timber mill company first as you may find the timber will need to be rested for sometime before its settled enough to use in this way ... Lovely idea though !!...See MoreWalnut Countertops?
Comments (20)A little insight about why we look at warranty and related maintenance supplied by the manufacturer. It really isn't about selling peace of mind or potentially replacing products free of charge (which is never truly free). The amount of detail a manufacturer puts into their combined warranty and maintenance disclosure tells you a great deal about what THEY know about their own product. The extent they go to protect themselves and their liability should lead to good questions about the product itself. Compare more than one wood counter manufacturer, and their costs. Then look at their warranty and maintenance info. Due to the higher risks associated with wood counters, over the length of their life, I would be concerned about one considered "economical" compared to other counter material options in your area. I would find the opposite to be true for my market and projects. As for material selections, whether Formica or Onyx, it's not a judgement of their quality but how they are utilyzed as part of the whole design. With great craftsmanship and sound design, economics of the material itself need not be relevant. Taste and coordination works at any level. Just be knowledgable of the material you select and that it matches with your expectation....See MoreGardening under walnut trees

Comments (14)slate is natural. it's petrified mud. it's hard but fragile, if that makes sense. so is ceramic, porcelain, and marble. anything that doesn't 'give' when you walk on it, might be hard. if you weigh a lot, have bad knees and joints, then walking on concrete or ceramic tile or similar, might be 'hard on your feet'. walking on carpet, cork, wood that's laid over a subfloor and spanned joists, might be easier on your feet/joints. They say running on asphalt as opposed to the sidewalk is easier on your feet and joints because the asphalt has a little bounce to it. here's my thing,,,do you stand in your own home frequently? or walk the hallways excessively? I really don't think it matters otherwise unless you are old/infirm. if you stand in the kitchen and cook a lot, do cork flooring or get one of those cushy kitchen mats. Otherwise, put down whichever flooring you like and works w/your lifestyle. again, get cushy slippers to wear in the house if the 'hard floor' bothers you. Or get carpet....See Moreademink
