It looks like it's fox-tailing so I'll take a stab that it's Pinus balfouriana.

Another Pinus contorta, just part of the natural variation in the species.

Resin

Specimen is not mature, of course, as it still has the youthful growth habit stage and the species grows much bigger than this.

Dax - If there is even one Pinus balfourina species tree growing in the UK to this size I would be very suprised. I'd love a dwarf one though.

Resin - You knew even as you wrote it that I would wince. Alas the universal Contorta curse. I will keep looking for the biggest mugos.

BBoy - my bad, I said that in the hope it was mugo which would be very mature at this size. As a Contorta it is fairly young still.
