I am not an expert but I am deathly allergic to true lillies. My airways close up if I'm in a closed room with them. Daylilies do not affect me at all. I have over 200 and I even handle/store their pollen. I do have a few true lillies planted far from the house in the backyard. I admire them from afar and avoid that bed when they are in full bloom. I just enjoy looking at them too much to not have a few.
Keep in mind everyone is different and do whats best for your family.

Thanks for the info; that's quite encouraging to hear. I think I will go ahead and leave the daylilies in place this year. If my fiance does have allergy problems once they start blooming, I'll figure it out then. After all, if they're a serious problem, I can just cut off the flower stems and leave the greenery until I can replace them.

If you're in a neighborhood with other houses close by, it's probably a good idea to take a look at what flowers and trees other people are growing, and what trees are in your own yard. It's totally possible (unfortunately) that removing your daylilies wouldn't make much difference in the overall allergen level.

I know this is an old post, but how did he end up doing? kimkats, My sister and I are deathly allergic to lillies too! We’ve never heard of anyone else with the same allergy. She’s not as fearful as I am, but I’ve avoided all lillies, including daylilies.
