Close-ups 2007

Hi everyone,

It's been a while since I've been on the forum. Some of you know I have a passion for close-ups of daylilies. I thought I'd share a few. I'm really itching to get back in the garden.

Marvelous photography Charlie...and good to see you posting again. As always, I enjoyed your close ups, especially that first one! Wow, it looks good enough to eat! LOL
I think we're all "itching" to get back in the garden. Springs just around the corner for lots of us, in fact, if you look outside down here, you'd think it had already arrived! :)
    Happy gardening,

Jan, why do you torture me with the spring arrival down south. Even Mother Nature has taunted me with 70 degree days followed by 20 degree days. Even the spring peepers came out for a couple of days; boy they have retreated now.

Charlie, your photos are absolutely stunning! Love the first one in particular, with all the water droplets, but I think they're all fabulous! If you don't mind me asking, what type of camera are you using to get these closeups?

    Awesome closeups, Charlie!

Would you please tell us what kind of camera you have? I also like to take close-ups, but yours turn out much clearer than mine.

Nice to hear from you again, Charlie. All the photos are great, but I agree about the first one -- it looks very edible. Great work!

Thanks for the kind comments. I think the 1st picture is my favorite picture I've ever taken of a daylily. The camera I used was an HP945. The pictures were take with the wide angle setting and in macro mode. The camera is only a 5.3 megapixel. I'd like to upgrade to higher resolution but I've got my eye on several daylilies and a video camera. Not enough money for all of my interests. Can you relate?

    Hi Charlie,
Great shots! I thought I'd share some of mine...

I tried a few close up shots last year... but the new camera came at the end of the season...

Beautiful photos, Charlie and Michelle. I love the fine details of flowers, to the point where I have to remind myself to take "long shots" and "group shots" in my own garden, lol. I think most of my daylily shots are single blooms, but I'll have to experiment with getting even closer. Your photos are inspiring!

Oh My Goodness Charlie your photographs have taken my breath away. I think maybe you should have them in some photo contest.

You and Michell have some really excellent photography skills. I love close ups but my little camera doesn't take close ups that good. They look blurry or something. I noticed in both of ya'lls photos that the daylilies almost look like someone has sprinkled gold dust on the. Hmmm Hmmm
Simply wonderful photography, thanks for sharing with us.

All of them are so beautiful. I wish I had the gift that the two of you have with the camera. Want more!

Hey there Charlie. I was wondering about you , and was going to e-mail you and see what you are up to. The first pic is fabulous! They are all nice of course but that's my pick too! I would be afraid to change cameras if mine took pictures like that!

Good shots Michelle. I wouldn't dare try those with my piece of junk...

Thank you both for posting your close up shots. We don't see many of those....Ellie

Nice pics Michelle. I didn't post last week because I went to Myrtle Beach to play golf and stop by Browns Ferry Garden. If you are ever in that area stop by and see Charles and Heidi Douglas near Georgetown. They have a fabulous setup for walk-in traffic.

Hi Ellie. I'm still alive, but I have a lot of irons in the fire. I need to quit my regular job to concentrate on the fun stuff.

For you guys that like close-ups.......in a day or two I'll have a surprise for you.

Just fabulous, Charlie! I want to know where my calendar is that is full of these great photos?
Reminds me of those wonderful paintings of Georgia O'Keefe.

Beautiful closeups. Thanks very much for sharing.

Michelle, who would have thought that was Stella? Truly amazing.

Charlie, are you the1chasman on YouTube too? If so, well how does it feel to be famous now? Bill Maryott recommended your videos to the e:mail robin today- that's pretty cool :)

Hi Charlie! Thanks for the compliments... I love my DLs! I wish I had a farm somewhere around... the closest is Jack Carpenter, and it is about a 2+ hour drive each way... maybe someday this summer we will make an overnight trip. I don't play golf, but I hear Myrtle Beach is fab. Sometimes just the clubhouse is worth the visit. Beautiful grounds, good cocktails etc... :o)

berrytea4me - Stella started doing that towards the end of a very hot season last year. All the finishing blooms were very unique. I'll tell you, I have about 10 clumps of Stella, and I love the way she looks, especially in the front yard... I have been too scardy cat to put anything of value out there. LOL. What if someone comes by and decides to plant-nap my Jerry Nettles, or Little Blue Bell. I would die.

Yes Berrytea4me, I'm the1chasman on YouTube also. I've been debating to post a link to my videos here. It would go to my website and I don't want to be accused of doing it for commercial purposes.

I am honored that Bill Maryott recommended them.

Morning Mist is the PERFECT Easter video. Incredible! I cried.

    Hi Charlie,

I just now found your YouTube videos. I especially liked 'Morning Mist'. You did a fine job capturing the dew on the morning blooms, looking so fresh and lovely! The video was candy for the eyes on this cold last day of winter!

    Keep those coming!

The pictures are spectacular! I too love close ups! Once I get my computer to upload pics again, I hope to be able to put some in as well! Anyways, I sure enjoy looking at these and all the pics that everyone submits.

Thanks for the kind comments. Kim I will see you in Columbus. I'm just starting another video about the farm awakening from winter.
    See ya

Those are beautiful pictures! Just lovely!

I have a friend that just graduated the arts college here locally and she LOVES macro photography! She does lots of nature pics but I don't ever recall her doing lilies. I should turn her on to the flower and the shots she could get!
