This is supposedly the rarest pine in the world. Presumably efforts are underway to preserve it..any chance of seeds being distributed in the next few years?
Thanks resin. Since it is in the same section as P. gerardiana & P. bungeana I'd just assumed it would be relatively similar in hardiness. I hadn't read the "remarks" on its conifers.org page. Does it sometimes seem that relictual populations have anomalous hardiness? Certainly the area where Metasequoia was discovered could not be colder than zn 7, yet we know people are growing the plant in zn 5. Likewise all the past talk of Wollemia possibly being zn 7 hardy is nonsense, yet plants have survived the upper single digits with moderate injury...a temperature very unlike anything the type plant had ever experienced.
Not being flip to bump this after a decade, almost, but came across this pine while reading about P. bungeana. Any updates? We have a different panel of participants these days. (Vale Pineresin, who I suspect has shuffled off this mortal coil)
