It would definitely help if the things that are on the 3 pieces of furniture lined up on the wall were consolidated into one piece. While I know you don't want a big entertainment center, would you consider a big bookcase, cabinet and TV stand all rolled into one piece? Certainly with a child around, you're going to need a place to stash toys, and to house books. I'm fond of Ikea's Billy series. paint the dresser the same black as the tv stand and shelf unit. Place on wall with the tv and the shelf unit. hand picture that is now above the dresser above the tv to add height equal to shelf unit. Add greenery with tall vase on the dresser to give scale to the the picture over tv and the shelf unit.

Hang the TV on the wall with a speaker on each side up in the corner by the ceiling, find a nice low long dresser to go under it, wall would look good dark like the grout on the floor. Hope this gives you some ideas.

Paint just the tv wall dark as an accent wall. Sorry I made it sound like paint the room dark.

I think your'e going to have to consider a built-in of some sort as mentioned buy Carolyn and Dytecture. Currently, the three pieces are stylistically to different to share the same wall.

Perhaps something like this would work for you (minus the baby tempatations on the lower shelf!)

Is the tv too big to sit on top of the dresser? You could then paint the dresser black and put speakers next to it to balance the sides where the tv is wider than the dresser. And the shelf unit with the pictures on it....I don't know how old your baby is but when he/she starts to use furniture to pull him/herself up, it's going to tumble down. Can you secure it to the wall?

Too many small pieces of furniture. Purchase one long low TV stand with storage. Add color on the wall and a rug.

Love some of the ideas above. Painting just the one wall a darker accent color would make it all not stand out as much. With a small baby it won't be long until they'll be all into your TV and your lower devices and like was mentioned above that small bookshelf unit just doesn't look strong enough to take a baby pulling up on it. I know you don't want an entertainment system but sometimes that just works best with small children. It gets the TV more up and out of the way and usually has doors that you can put baby locks on to protect your components. If you did that I'd eliminate the other furniture on that wall. Or maybe you could mount the TV on wall using a cabinet underneath with doors to store your things and be able to baby lock . Maybe put up shelves on each side of the TV to even out the space or some large artwork, moving the cabinet and bookshelf somewhere else. You'd then have floorspace to add a chair or just to make room for baby play. I would add an area rug to help add some color and makes a soft area for kids. I'd pick a rug then choose an accent color from it. If you're not able to make many changes I would paint the wall & then paint the cabinet black also and move it onto the same wall as the TV and hang the large picture above it at the same level as the bookshelf. Maybe putting a trailing (Ivy?) type plant on top of the cabinet in a nice pot would warm things up a little. If you keep the bookshelf there I'd change out what you have on it. The family pictures could really hurt if they fell on little ones head. Or find a way to attach it to the wall. Just a few ideas. Good luck.

it will seem that everyone has the same idea. The use of built-in with doors are great for making this space both children friendly and gives you the illusion that the so-called monsterous TV can be hidden from your sight. It can also function as a bookshelf to host all your books, picture frames and assessories here are some ideas for you

Hang the tv in the center of the wall. Reduce the contrast between the tv and wall by painting that wall a darker tone. You could put a low rectangular cabinet underneath to put baby stuff in. Flank the tv with identical cabinets or a combination cabinet/ bookcase with the doors on the bottom. Of course, secure them to the wall. Here's where the fun comes in. Choose a color that you really like, and find a group of frames for your photos and paint those frames that accent color. Or you could use the accent color in matting the photos. Or on the cabinets/bookcase. Or maybe just knobs. Find a pleasing arrangement for your matted and framed photos around the tv. It doesn't have to be symmetrical, just well balanced. You can add to this display over time. The idea is to put the attention on the photos drawing it away from the big dark void that is the tv. The arrangement of rectanglular shapes of the tv on the low cabinet flanked by the high cabinets is grounded,stable, and calming. The photos draw the viewer in and puts the focus on what is important in your family.

On the cheap, you could get a really long vintage dresser (the 9 drawer kind) from Craigslist and paint it any color you want. But, you could be bold and do red, orange, teal,blue, whatever. Then...modify the drawer front so the front will pull down (instead of out). (Hinges at the bottom of the drawer). That way, your remote controlls will work on the equipment that you put in a drawer. The bottom drawers are now storage for kids toys, or movies and game supplies.

I think that you can have a nice wall without the television overwhelming the space if you compromise and build the wall out at least two floor tiles deep, so the television and components can be recessed. This will also give you the entire rest of the newly bumped-out wall space for art, hidden cabinets, maybe even a few open shelf spots. This also keeps everything tucked away from the baby.

Remove all the other furniture on this wall and use one nice console. This will give you storage for the TV components as well as a beautiful piece of furniture for the TV.
