I think that professional landscaping is going to be the magic touch that turns this house into a beauty. It's already quite lovely, but there needs to be more focus on the front entrance. It's very hard to see details in that area so I can't be more specific. I would not recommend painting the garage doors in something bold to make them a feature. They do a good job of blending in at the moment. I would however look at purchasing larger light fixtures in a style that will stand out during the day when they are not lit. Perhaps wrought iron with opaque white glass? I don't know what tha little bump is in your front lawn right in front of the entrance porch! Please do the landscaping first and you'll find that you need to make minimal changes to the house itself.

Yes, I totally agree with the landscaping idea & larger lights. The little "bump" in front yard is 4' rock trimed in raiload ties. The color of the cedar siding change from dark chocolate(recessed porch) to burnt orange/brown where sun hits it more.. Brick is dark burgandy.
Im in need of a little jazz for the front door area before the snow flies. In addition to a color for the front door, should I paint the recessed porch as well? Thanks very much.

I agree that landscaping would help your situation, but I'd be tempted to investigate the use of other materials to break up your exterior. Stucco or shake shingles might look phenomenal as would a metal roof. Included a few pics. for inspiration. I hope Dytecture weighs in again on your project, as he has a knack for exteriors.
