green beans, experiment and grow 20 varieties!

In my experience Kiwis produce a lot of vines, a lot of leaves, and hardly any fruits. I have never heard of anyone getting a Kiwi to fruit in Zone 5.

Kiwis need a lot of water attention. They transpire through the leaves a great deal of moisture. Hardy kiwi are easily hardy in your area. The heat here really taxes mine, and I'm hoping some nearby trees grow aggressively and start providing shade.

I got kiwi fruit my 4th year, but I screwed up the growing process the first year, and wind wiped out a small crop a year ago.

My sea berries grew like gangbusters this year and sent out a lot of sideshoots. If you want to keep out intruders the sharp needles on these will certainly do the trick.

Ideas:
1.Espalier dwarf fruit trees on the fence. Apples, peach, pear.
2. Forget Kiwi. Growth gets too heavy and will pull the fence down.
3. Thornless raspberries would work well.
4. Are the currents the type that have been bred to NOT spread white pine blister to you local white pines? This is important.
5.Save some open space on the fencing to secure tomatoes, vining green beans, cucumbers, etc.
