No trades for such gems! Is this post dead? My under standing is that to grow Arisaema sikokianum you have to pollenate your self? Is this correct? I would say that If So, Trillium erectum is a good trade.No? I think I should ask Doris!

I would say that normally a trade for your Trillium gems would be wonderful, it is just that there are literally hundreds of Trillium erectum and Trillium undulatum covering the woodland floor here. Now, if you are saying that you have T. erectum var. alba or T. erectum var. luteum to offer than that's a whole other story...

As far as pollination goes with A. sikokianum... I like to try crossing mine with other Arisaemas for the interesting hybrids that result but have had no problem with nature taking care of the whole process without me. Like so many other species in the plant kingdom, Arisaemas can be quite promiscuous with others in the garden. It is when you have both male and female parts on the same Arisaema that self pollination occurs and since most Arisaema can change their sex from year to year than you never know what interesting crosses can be had each season.

Heck, if you decide to attend the NARGS plant sale next Saturday than I'll bring you a bulb to give you! ;o)

Or do you mean If I join NARGS and join the New England Chapter you will trade me an A.sikokianum bulb or would that be two? But is it that I join the NARGS and the New England Chapter and attend the meeting you

Now that you have suggested it, I'll GIVE you two Arisaema sikokianum bulbs if you were to join the NARGS and the New England Chapter and attend the meeting on Saturday! Just think of all the old faces you'll see again. Renew old friendships with some gardening friends...

You know, it's funny, whenever I post on the New England Exchange forum I get inundated with private emails from everywhere else other than New England! Go figure. I can't even tell you how many A. sikokianums that I have traded elsewhere since posting here. I do try to do my part in keeping this forum active but still get most requests from the other exchanges. That reminds me, I do need to email Doris about trading more plants...

Hi,
I am a new member of garden web and have just read through a great exchange between members last spring about Arisaema sikokianum. I volunteer for a great Trustees of Reservations (of Massachusetts) property, and we have had trouble finding Arisaema sikokianum for our annual plant sale. Obviously we are non-profit, and use the proceeds of the plant sale to cover the cost of maintaining our very special historic garden. We try to provide unusual and difficlt to find in the trade plants for our eager and sophisticated gardeners. Any suggestions for locating this plant (either purchase or trade) for our annual plant sale next May?

A wonderful, and often inexpensive, source for blooming size Arisaema sikokianum is Seneca Hill Perennials. She often offers other such treasures as A. fargesii, A. candidissimum etc. for very reasonable prices. I do not see A. sikokianum offered for this fall season, but it is often offered in the spring catalog. The New England Wildflower Society offered it in 2001 for a very good price as well and may have it to offer this coming spring season of 2003. My seedlings will not be available for at least another 2-3 seasons as the seed was only just sown in the fall of 2001. Sorry that I couldn't be of help myself, but maybe one of these two sources will be. Best of luck in your search.
