Northspruce produces a Sapling

Hey everyone, in case you've all been wondering why I have been quiet lately (not to mention vague, forgetful and nauseated, LOL), I found out a little while ago that I'm pregnant! :o I never thought I would have kids but DH & I are happy now that it's happened. It's going to be my parents' first grandchild and they are giddy fools. It's disgusting. LOL. Marcia, I bet you know how they feel. ;0)

It's due in November, right around my birthday. Hope it doesn't throw too much of a wrench into the gardening season. Right now I barely have the motiviation to finish typing this sentence, but hopefully by planting out time I will feel more energetic.

That is awesome! Congratulations. Hopefully hubby and I will be joining your ranks of parenthood sometime in the next year or so. I'm sure everything will go great. If you need any help with names I'm sure we can all help out. Here are a few to get you started: April, June, Violet, Rose, Ivy, Zinnia, Iris, Rowan, Cherry, Berry, Clementine, Olive, Lemon, Orange, Quince, Huckleberry, Apple, Plum, Angelica, Poinsettia, Cedar, Lily, Rose or Daffodil. Those are just a few I came up with or found on a baby naming website. :) So, which one do you like? :D

OH my sweet dear lord, wow, this is so exciting Gil. I'm so happy for you!

If it's a girl, I think you should call her Iris Rose since we know how much you love these two plants ;)

Get some vitamins and eat healthy girlfriend!
I wish I could give you a big hug in person!

    Hugs,

Wonderful, wonderful news, Gil. Congratulations to you both. Have a few soda crackers beside your bed and eat a couple before you get out of bed. It might help. And get plenty of rest. The first trimester during each of my pregnancies, I could fall asleep in mid sentence, anywhere and anytime. But, it got a bit better as time went on. Just what you need is a bunch more advice from another matron, I'm sure. : ) lol

Wow, lots of FN babies this year. This will be exciting.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh! Congratulations, Gil! I'm so glad for you!! Wonderful news!

I remember that tired feeling so well! With my daughter (whose birthday is November 9th), i could barely stay awake past 7:00 in the evening. Poor dh, he used to make popcorn or cook a steak and come into the bedroom and wave it under my nose - i stayed sound asleep. But it passed and by summer, things were back to normal. I really felt good after that.

Names, eh? My daughter is Allison Frances Rose, but it occurred to me later that i could have called her November Rose. Wouldn't that have been pretty? :) (Feel free to disagree - no one else likes that either, least of all Allison! LOL)

    Looking forward to updates!

Oh wow!!! I'm soooo happy for you! Congratulations! Don't worry, you will get your energy back, about the time he or she moves out of the house.LOL No really, the first trimester for me too was tiring and I second what Shauna said about having the crackers by your bed and eating them 5 to 10 minutes before getting out of bed. Helped me a lot! You timed it right, because you should have your energy back by planting time, and by October you won't be able to bend over anymore, but gardening's done by then.;^)

When do you go for your ultrasound? I know that's when it really hit me about what all was happening.

That's wonderful news.....and it really made my day!

Congratulations Gillian. I'm so excited for you. Hopefully You will start to feel better soon.
Time will go quick and once you hold that baby in your arms, you'll think "how could I ever have lived without this?"
As far as names why not pick a unique name, remember you are the hybridizer.
Keep us up to date on how everything is going.

Thanks for the well wishes guys! Syreeta, looking at your list of names I realized a lot of flower names are getting popular again. We don't know what we are going to pick but it will probably be on the traditional/non-weird side. I grew up with a name that nobody could spell or pronounce and it's not as fun as it seems. Syreeta, I hope you join me soon! That would be so cool.

I feel a lot better today than I have for the past week. I was just imagining eating crackers in bed in the morning with all 4 dogs swarming me trying to steal them. LOL Shauna, don't apologize about matronly advice, if I didn't get any I would know nothing. I have pretty much ignored babies all my life and have never even baby-sat so this is all new.

Laurie, I don't have an ultrasound scheduled yet. I have had a really hard time with medical care, to make a long story short, the clinic I used to go to cut me off when they found out I'm pregnant (I'm not from their "area" anymore and prenatal care is too resource-consuming). So I had to make an appointment at the clinic that is a block away from me (handy!) but they are very busy too and won't see me until the second trimester. I have since received opinions on this varying from normal to complete malpractice. But they wouldn't give me an earlier appointment so May it is.

I'll keep ya posted! Thanks for all the hugs n stuff :0)

I'm getting in here late with my congratulations but here they are. I have no advice, I'm afraid, but a thought does occur to me - this will no doubt be the most important seedling you've ever germinated, LOL, did you use a heat mat and plenty of humidity???

All my very best wishes to you both, Gillian.

    Gillian,

Congratulations! How exciting this must be for you!

Be sure to hit all the garage sales this summer for baby clothes and all the baby stuff you will need. Garage sales are a great source of good quality baby things and easy on the budget. (While you are there be sure to check out whether there is any gardening stuff for sale also). For my niece and cousins, when they had babies, I offered to buy them one outfit from the store or use the same amount of money and go garage saling for them. Always the same response I get...go garage saling. Before I went I would also ask them what they specifically needed for the baby. Later, I would present them with a shopping bag of nearly new baby clothes (much better than one outfit).

I am sure you will get a lot of advice in the next 6 months and by the way, you will also hear everyone's baby stories and birth stories whether you want to or not.

Just wait until you feel the little fluttering in your tummy. I remember wondering if that was the baby moving or not. It is such a special feeling knowing that there is a little little person inside you that someday you will be able to hold in your arms. I loved the baby kicking and it is really neat when they have the hiccups.

    Enjoy your pregnancy!

Pudge - no, I used wintersowing (LOL!) :0)

Brenda, awesome idea with the garage sales. I have been warned not to buy certain items such as car seats and outdated equipment but with clothes you can't go wrong. I hope I will be able to find out what gender it is. I know a lot of people want a surprise, but I need to know what kind of clothes to buy!

    Wow, great news! Congratulations!

With my last pregnancy I ended up having to switch doctors and he also would not see me until the second trimester. Seems to be the new way I guess.

Here's wishing you and your new little sapling all the best!

Congratulations! That's great news. Sleep lots now, once the baby arrives you won't have the chance. Funny how your body takes control of your life once you're pregnant. I agree, after the first three months you'll get your energy back. And then two days before the baby's born, you'll decide you can't stand it any more, and you'll either move all the furniture and vacuum under it, or start washing walls.

Gil, I'm a little slow on the uptake here...but CONGRATULATIONS!!!! I'm so excited for you and your DH!

One suggestion for that "morning" sickness if it's bad enough that crackers don't help...

Try protein/dairy before you get up in the morning...a small serving of cottage cheese, yogurt, ice cream, an 18oz steak... ;o) whatever works...

Oh, and prenatal vitamins are important, but so is maintaining basic nutrition and hydration...so if they're making you really sick consider looking into just a folic acid supplement until it settles down.

Enjoy it all...and don't forget to get in a few 'kid-free' dates with your DH while you still can!!

    So happy for you!!
    Verena
