Tom, it likes a slightly rich moist soil, doesn't like to dry out. I've grown it several times and found it to be a short lived perennial. It can take some sun here but I think in your location it would want shade.

Thanks Annette. I have a good spot that I filled last year with leaf mulch. It's where I have my brugs. It will get some direct morning sun until about 12pm. Once the brugs are larger it will have mostly shade this summer. I'll be watering that bed all summer anyway due to the brugs and Four Oclocks. I know it can be short lived. Maybe it reseeds?

Tom, if you're lucky it will reseed although it never did for me. Maybe you'll be luckier in your zone :). I saw a whole patch of these blooming when on a garden tour, it was a sight to behold.

Hardy in zones 5-8. Easily started from seeds.

Drool, Tom that's what I call a great haul :). Let us know how they do for you. I think when I grew them I didn't give mine enough water, like the candelabra types they like boggy soil.

I also got 6 Sarcococca confusa for the shady bed under the dining room window. They've been in the store since February and were just taking up space on the tables. They bloom in late winter. To me, they smell like Hyacinths. I planted those out too.

I have two of these orchid primroses and the first year they bloomed beautifully. The last two years they come up and they bloom stems come up but never open, they just shoot up green stems with small green buds on them. Anyone know what might cause this?
