it will take awhile for roots to start growing unless you have the right amount of heat. try to keep the bottom warmer than the top and open the baggie everyday or so to allow fresh air in to prevent mold. remoisten every few days but not everyday unless you leave the bag open for a long period of time. using that seed germination mat will give you an advantage by cutting down the time. dont be like me checking on them everyday after school hoping to see a root, this will knock off some of the root initials(the white lumps) each could become a root.

Melissa, This is going to sound strange, but the paper towel will dry on the side closest to the heat - even in a closed bag. Flip the bag at least morning and night to redistribute the moisture.
