Here are my comments on our single specimen of 'Green Mountain' boxwood from a posting back in Dec./05:

"We talked about boxwood some time ago, however the post has since scrolled off into the ether. We've had one 'Green Mountain' for some time - this will be its 4th winter. It came through the first winter perfectly, which was quite amazing. The second winter the top half winter-killed. It had no significant winter-kill the third winter. We don't get long-lasting snow cover; most of our snow comes in March, if then."

So, now, at the end of its 4th winter, here it is. Again, no snow cover this past winter. It has again come through with no significant damage (a white edge or tip on some leaves), however, the damage sustained in its 2nd winter, when the top half was killed, is still very visible - note the flat-topped look. (I guess I could shape it to mask that, but I can't get too excited about it.) It has grown a bit, and is currently about 18" across and 12" high.

So, it's always kind of fun to experiment with a marginally hardy shrub or two, but no one should get the idea that boxwood makes good hedging material in Calgary, LOL! *** (....Despite that the local big box hardware stores may be full of them!) Nor should it be the centerpiece of one's best display bed, LOL!
