Very cool fruit Michelle. I used to live in Bogota and we ate it a lot there. You can buy it in the supermarket here sometimes, maybe because we have such a large South American population. The next time I see one, I'll buy it and send you the seeds, though I have no idea if they'll be viable. But it can't hurt to try, especially for the love of your life. :)

Did he also eat cape gooseberries? I can't remember the name, but gosh I loved them! Google them and show him a picture, I bet he knows the name. The seed were so small I can't imagine I'd be able to grow them here, even if I could find them, but Colombia was just beginning to export them when I was there and I haven't seen them here yet.

I never even thought of buying various fruits at the store and just trying the seeds from them. Some may work!

I asked him about the gooseberries. He never heard of the name.. when I showed him a picture he thought it was Narajilla (or something like that)but when looking at the info of the two on wikipedia they are not the same... so he wasn't sure of it. Do they sell either of those in S FL?

Nope, those aren't them. Gosh I wish I could remember the spanish name. I used to buy a bag and eat them like candy, getting my fingers all sticky (they have a paper covering like chinese lantern flowers, and inside the covering, they're all sticky. but gosh they're wonderful.)

As for the granadilla, we've got a storm threatening down here, but when things calm down a bit at work (I'm a reporter for the Herald, so storms are a lot of work for us) I'll grab you one at the store and get some seeds. They don't always have them, but I'll keep an eye out. No worries about the postage and I'll eat the fruit. Sooner or later, you'll have something I want I'm sure.

I know this is an old thread, but I came across Sweet Granadilla in Panama and my husband I fell in love with this fruit. We live in South Florida, but despite the large South American population, we can't find this fruit anywhere and we'd love to grow it ourselves. Do you know which stores to find them here to buy them?

I'm also happy to trade for seeds/sprouts/fruit/cuttings. Here's what I have:

Juicer Oranges (passed down from our family): Multiple seeds and three sprouts.

we have goose berries here in Canada. Orange, tart, little balls about the size of a quarter, and did I say TART...lol. If you need me to go grab a handful and seed them I can and send them to you.
