Mine are up against the foundation of my home and are big and bushy and showing flower buds. I had planted them a bit deeper so as to give additional protection during times when the snow melts away and exposes them to the bitter cold. I had tried one in the garden and it was dead after its first winter, though have heard that others are having success, so I'll attempt again.

My 3 Incrediballs are doing really well in my zone 3 yard. They did not require any extra winter protection at all. That said, they may be in a rather protected location in my yard.

BTW, you may want to do a search on hydrangeas in this forum - a lot of this information was posted in other similar threads already.
