Soil too Acidic ???

With our outdoor remodel nearly complete we re-did most of our planting beds. Along the way we the did the unforgiveable ( ha ha ) - we amended our soil. As I've mentioned before it's pretty commonplace in this part of the country due to the combination of our extreme humidity and moistness of our deep clay soil. During this remodel I brought in 50 tons of amended river bottom soil.

Anyway, I was beginning to set all our new trees and got to thinking.....I hadn't really checked the soil PH this time. So when I did it was averaging 5.5 in most areas.

My question is this.....is 5.5 too acidic for most conifers? And if so what is the potential damage to the conifers? I could amend it again and bring it back more into the 6.0-6.5 range but I'm pretty far down the planting road at this point.

Thx for the input - Mark
