im wanting to pull my carpet up and leave the rest on my stairs my question is can I use different wood floors if my dining room and living room space the dining room has narrow hardwood and a light color I want to go with a wider hardwood and darker wood will that match

I have a similar question. I need to change the 1960 strip oak flooring in my bedrooms but I am not ready to change the upstairs hallway and stairs yet (currently carpeted) That is for a future downstairs project. Does the flooring in my bedrooms have to match the hallway?

I have 3 bedrooms and a hallway upstairs. We put different colors and also different finished in each bedroom. Our bedroom we have a shiny finish and I did not want that finish in the bedroom that our grandchildren used.

I have a 2 story house and some people say the kitchen color wood has to blend with wood floors on the stairs and upstairs or it has to flow. My kitchen will not be in sight near my stairs. Also i am going with a lighter wood floor and my furniture is on the lighter side. Can i blend in with an area rug?

The wood is like a taupe color. Is that a fad?

I have cream color tile with light browns and light, light grey color through out my home. would you place any colors of wood tile in each bedrooms. their all separated from one another except two are side by side, exiting into the cream tile.The cream tile measures 12x12. My master bed exit into my living room.

Hello! I have a similar dilemma. I have attached some photos. I am refinishing and can stain all the floors downstairs to the darker picture shown in two stains photos. Only issue is upstairs is a lighter wood color. The banister is where I wonder if it would matter if I go with the darker stain and the stairs because that would stay as is. The color upstairs is similar to the photo of the kitchen. Would love any thoughts or opinions. Is it okay to have two different colors in main floor vs upper floor? The bottom photos are from real estate listing so furniture would be different.

I just re-did my dining room floor to a medium dark wood see picture below. The opening of the dinning room faces the banister going upstairs see second picture. I want to redo my banister, stair and all the rooms upstairs to a very light color wood (white/beige). Can I do the light stain or do I have to keep it all dark?

I have dark hardwood floors and same colour stairs going upstairs which matches to landing area. Rooms have carpet and I want change to hardwood. We were thinking to install light colour hardwood in rooms so rooms would look bright and bigger. Friends and family including contractors suggesting to match hardwood with downstairs because upper floor landing has same hardwood. Reasons are given resale value and people would Not like different Colour hardwood fLoot considering the fact landing area doesnt match

I do prefer when wood floors match throughout a house, even when they may not be continually connected. When I do not see this, I feel like the house is somehow disjointed. Funny thing is that other than that and same type of interior doors and door knobs everywhere, I like everything else to be somewhat unique.

I have hardwoods in every room. They all match. If someone wants to use a different species upstairs, then the stair treads, risers, railings, balusters, can be the integrating factors that help join two different types of flooring. I've posted an example.

Maybe do grey stain and black stain
