Hmmm. I see the picture. It is a euphorbia species. Another one of those plants people have labeled stonecrop. Remember the milky sap? Spreads by stolons underground, so watch out. Seems to have been a common cultivated plant in the 1940's, at least in the area around Ely, MN. In my treks in the woods I have come across this plant still thriving near several remains of log cabins from that era. Very drought tolerant.

Euphorbia cyparissias, also called cypress spurge. My sister gave me a piece of this last year, and it is living up to its reputation...though it hasn't been there long enough to be frightening yet!
Very pretty in spring when the foliage emerges all purple and red, then the yellow flowers...

My E.cyparissias is frightening! Came back this spring with a vengenace....in the lawn and everywhere. Been digging and killing like a crazy person. I now have it confined to a 3 gallon container, buried in the ground. Hope this stops it from invading nearby towns and villages. I really like its foliage and would like to keep it....we will see.
