I hope the birds like it! I had thought about making the mosaic out of half marbles but thought they might be a bit too slippery when wet. Now I'm glad I decided to use rocks since it turned out so nice.

The turtle is a ceramic one I picked up at a thrift store a while back. I had been looking for a stone or glass butterfly or dragonfly to add to the birdbath without much luck when I remembered the turtle that I had put in the closet with the rest of my art project supplies.

Here's what the birdbath looked like when I first brought it home. It's a very heavy concrete one. I'll put the top back on the base once the mortar has finished setting up.

I'm toying with the idea of painting the scollwork around the edge but I haven't made up my mind yet.

You did a GREAT job. Take a picture when you get it all set up. The scroll work might look good painted, maybe some muted color so that it doesn't compete with your wonderful mosaic work. Just mho.

Gabriele, I used the same type of mastic/mortar that I used to attach the tiles to my kitchen countertops. You can get it at Lowes and Home depot in premixed tubs. The unsanded variety that I prefer looks a lot white cake icing.
