Holy Cow! That's spectacular !

I've never seen those before and wouldn't have known they were a wildflower. How common are they?

That is incredible! I have seen Indian Paintbrush a few times but never a lot at once like that. And with the blue flowers it looks beautiful... I think they are silky lupines?

I'm embarrassed to say I didn't pay any attention to the blue flowers at all. It is something utterly common, but I don't know what they are. My impression was something in the pea family. I have to say the colour is somewhat misleading, as the paintbrush looked very red, and the picture looks quite pink. So the blue might appear different also. This clump was in an area where there was really no road shoulder, so I was not inclined to linger. Also the mosquitoes were just awful.
NAF, I don't know how common the paintbrush is, but I've never seen such a mass of them. It really was breathtaking!

How beautiful, Marie! I've never seen Indian Paintbrush, though for awhile i had heard that our common orange hawkweed was called that. I like yours much better!

The other day i was driving along a road and saw a similar sight with vetch and toadflax. The purple and yellow together was spectacular and i couldn't have made a better planting myself. No camera, of course! LOL

Great picture! I've seen lots of Indian Paintbrush in the mountains, but never such a dense clump as you've found. It can sometimes be found out on the plains in Alberta, though it isn't common, at least not in the Edmonton area. I think the blue flower is tufted vetch.

Wow, great picture! Paintbrush is so neat...at home here its yellow and 50 miles down the road its all pink just like your picture and when I was in Alberta it was really red! I've often wondered if I transplanted the other colors at home, would it turn yellow or stay pink or red. Sort of how hydrangeas change with the acidity in the soil. it would make a good experiment anyway.

Well it turns out that what is somewhat rare in my area, is as plentiful and common in north/central Sask. as fireweed or goldenrod is around here. We made a little road trip down the Hanson Lake Rd to Prince Albert and area and saw the paintbrush absolutely everywhere. The ditches were filled with it!

Here's our yellow paint brush...not near as pretty as the pink!
