Figo Preto

This has been a good grower and a darn good fig. I like it so much that I have three of them. One in a 20 gal pot and two in 40 gal pots.

Agreed, very nice set up you have there! I like the idea of rocks instead of grass as well. I just might have to get a Preto also. Whats the point of having BM with out a complimentary Preto?

    Art,
I have a couple of these but they are young -I wanted to compare to Black Madeira. Have you done that yet?

    Michael,
No, my BM hasn't ripened this year yet. It's way behind for some reason. I can't wait.
I will say that my Genovese Nero is fairly similar, but larger.

Looking good Art. I had a few black madeira last week and a few more ripening now. My preto is still small and didn't fruit yet but hopefully next year I can compare the two.

You're gonna need a bigger fig bowl! That's a lot of figs! My preto tasted like strawberry preserves and they didn't split this year.

Nelson, Just beautiful! Nice plant and fig!

Very nice nelson, gives me something to look forward to. I was able to root 2 of the cuttings I got from you but they haven't grown very much. Thanks again

Really good looking fig there Nelson.
I need to pay you a visit. Like when they're ready;)

Art The figs look like large Concord grapes. Maybe you'll have a ripe one for me to try when I stop over. Nelson your figs look to be of nice size. This is my second year for my Preto and once again the figs started too late. Maybe next year I'll finally get to try one of my own.

both Figo Preto and Black Madeira seems to put on good amount of figs. on the other hand, i prefer I-258, but so far I-258 doesn't put on as many figs.

Very nice looking figs. Keep the harvest reports coming!

    Looks good, all!

Art, have you grown this in the ground at all? It's reportedly hardy.

    I'm in heaven!

    Inside of these great figs.

Kelby, I have not tried it in ground. I doubt I could ever get a ripe fig if I did.

Gotcha, thanks Art. Keep up the good work!

Hi Jersey 21, AmericaFigLover did you try www.starkbros.com for fig trees , I just looked in their web site they still have fig trees.

Yes I checked, but I'm not seeing Figo Preto unless it goes by another name?

Hello, they have Brown Turkey and Chicago Hardy, I am not sure about Figo Preto

I have my self a different varieties from mediterranean, I dont even know their English name

I bought two Figo Preto cuttings from harveyc on
eBay back in March. He’s one of my favorite sellers. Both cuttings rooted easily
and they’re in one gallon pots now. They grew quickly at first, but are now
among my slowest growing trees, with thirteen leaves each. Perhaps they’ll perk
up with the hot summer weather ahead.

Thanks for the update. I will check it out!

Hi, just to check, you live in PA and the hardiness zone is 6A?

Hi, just looking at your post. Wondering where you're located. Do you think the Figo Preto or Black Madeira will grown in San Francisco? The hardiness zone I'm told is 10B, but we don't get hot weather. Sort of stays between 40-65 degrees F.
    Thanks,

    twoputz
