Bought online Figs, Help

My fig problem - I recently purchased 3 fig trees from an online tree company.

Please take a look at these 3 figs, can they be saved?

1 Desert King Fig Tree

1 Honey Fig Tree

1 Black Jack Fig Tree

What I did - I soaked the roots for 30 minutes and planted them right away in separate containers.

Need some advice or words of encouragement so that these Fig trees will survive.

Cheers to all of us Fig lovers!

They might drop all their leaves, but still can make it. Who did you get them from?

You did all the right things, but I would also place them
in the shade, till (hopefully) new leaves/tips 'break'.

I am sure they will make it if you follow Gorgi advice.
It is hard for the little tree to make it in good condition, when in growing stage like this.
Especially if it goes long distance.
I really would like to know if they will live because I also sell a few fig trees, but because I do not have George (Gorgi, above)technique and expertise in shipping I only shipped bare rooted trees, for being affread that they will die,if sent while growing.
George sent me 2 figs last week ,but they arrived in perfect conditions, with Live leaves.
Yet I have to mention,They travelled 80 miles only, but yet again,i did received it the third day, after he shipped.
Yet ,George Michaleff, packing,is second to none,no doubt.!!!!!.
    Thanks,again, George.

This website is awesome! Thanks for all the advice!

I will send weekly pictures to show updates.

Also, I bought the fig trees through http://www.willisorchards.com/ and notified them of the condition, they said it was "typical and they will live" however, they would ship me another fig tree if any do not live.

AND, maybe some VENTED dome (e.g., just a simple tall/narrow
platic bag on top with some holes in it). This will maintain
some extra moisture within and prevent (any) drying strong winds, from doing their toll...

I bet they make but like others have said.

Start them in the shade until they have new leaves and then harden them off before placing in full sun.

If you have to place them in the sun get some shade cloth and wrap them and they should be fine.

Burry them a bit deeper than the soil line on the trees.

I prefer to plant small trees during the dormant season rather than the summer but fig trees are tough and they should all pull through if you treat them right.

Follow the advice of the experienced growers already posted, figs shock easily when the roots or climate changes, as long as the roots did not dehydrate too much or were damaged they should be ok. there has been quite a bit negative feedback on certain fruit tree and vine suppliers in GA, Ty Ty and Willis, which you can read online, so be careful.

I got my first baby fig, alive and pretty, from Gurneys online. It looked great for a while in it's 2 gallon container, then the leaves all died. I moved it to only morning sun, put it on the drip system with the citrus and it is now lovely! It killed me to pinch after 5 leaves, but that was the thing to do! New branches and leaves everywhere!

    Good luck!

All - It's been about 1 1/2 weeks and the trees have all lost their leaves. Just curious as to when you all think these trees will start to produce new leaves/tips?

    Thanks again for everyones help!

It may take anywhere from a few more weeks to 8 weeks depending on how hard of a shock they went thru. But then if your in Ohio you will be getting new growth and soon the weather will turn for dormant season and growth Might be very tender.Look for the new growth to appear at the knots on the limbs.
Its too bad they wrapped them roots in tight plastic wrap it looks like as i think roots need to breath especially when shipping because they will get quite hot in a cardboard box .
If after time you see no growth appearing scratch the bark starting at the top to see if there is green under the bark. If the limb starts to turn a dark rusty color from the top on down thats a bad sign from my experience. Keep your pictures just in case.
    Best Luck

Congratulations ritscat50. Any time trees are purchased bare-root they require a certain amount of care and nurture. If you do your part they will usually pull through and once they start putting on new growth they have passed the first and largest hurdle.

Or in other words it looks like your trees are out of the woods.lol!!!
