Vrie what is the pretty pink flower in that one picture.
I think it is the sixth picture down. it is really striking?

Vrie - Years ago DD wouldnÂt eat vegetables at the table but would sit in the garden and eat peas off the vine.
It was one way to get vegetables into her.

Brieen  if I am not mistaken the pretty pink flower you are referring to is a phlox. Vrie correct me if I am wrong.

The garden is winding down...but yet still some things just keep sending out new buds...like some of the roses. I doubt that they will have time to open fully.....but it would be nice.

Laurie, the Pearly Everlasting were winter sowed this year as well bloomed their first year, however not the anticipated height of 2Â, right now they are only about 1Â, hopefully they will put on a grand show next year. I also want to try A. alpicola a much shorter species for the rock garden next year.

The scary Solanum atropurpureum is just now finally producing tomato like blooms, but I doubt very much that theyÂll produce any fruit/seed before the soon to be hard frost hits. When it dies, for sure I will have to put the overalls and heavy-duty gloves on when I rip this plant out of the garden, the thorns are very sharp and long. IÂm sure this plant would be ideal for those who are trying to keep cats or burglars off the property ;)

You have quite the cutie-picking partner there! He looks like he has some good healthy choppers to eat all that corn up too!

Last night I was putting some tenders like my Cannas into the greenhouse because of the frost risk warning, so when I was lifting my huge pots up the flower bud on top got wedged up into the door jam, hopefully I didnÂt damage it too much. This year has been a terrible year for Cannas, just not enough heat and sunshine. Usually by this time of the year they are already producing seeds heads.

Sierra what is that gorgeous orange/yellow flower in your first photo? Is it some kind of Osteospermum or Dimorphotheca African Daisy?

And Savona your baskets hanging from your arbor is awesome, theyÂre about the same size as the hanging baskets that are hanging down our town mainstreet.

Rudbeckia Autumn Colours is for sure on my wish list for next year!

Sharon....that yellow flower is 'Butterfly Daisy' Argyranthemum frutescens.

I bought one plant in a large 4inch pot....the plant had been pinched......and was just getting new buds on it. I brought it home and cut/pinched it back again.....the plant became huge. LOL. Also the little white crab spiders liked it all summer. They would fold over petals to hide under....so it was obvious which flowers they were on.....we watch the spiders grow all summer.....not many bugs on this plant. hee hee.

HI all sorry I haven't been around for a couple days-- company kept me busy!

I don't know what that pink/purple flower is. They are about 4ft tall bushes that stay green until it gets really cold. They are in many places around town always tall. I wish I knew, as 2 of my aunts want it-- I'll try to collect seed later this fall and see if I'm successful or not-- if I am, both aunts get a plant and I'll let you know in a few months!

I've been rather disappointed with the tomatoes. I have 35+ plants and that's the most I get at a time! I'm gonna be pulling maters and trying to ripen them til my eyeballs bleed when frost hits! Oh well that's what a weird year its been!

As suggested by Ian, it appears to be a variety of Phlox paniculata - sort of an unusual color, very attractive.

I would vote Phlox too. Everyone's gardens are still looking really great! I could post a pic of a gross corn fungus or big fat slugs but I won't spoil the thread. LOL.

I actually have to brag that my cannas are doing great and blooming like crazy. Just to make myself feel better.

If you wish to propagate Phlox paniculata it is perennial.
Phlox can be propagated by division or cuttings.
If you use seed there is no guarantee that the flowers will be the same color as the parent.
Division- divide healthy Phlox in spring.
Cuttings- lift Phlox and take 1in cuttings from thicker roots; place horizontally in trays.
Aerial parts of border Phlox are prone to nematode infestation and should not be used for propagation.

BTW is it fragrant? A lot of Phlox are fragrant.

Kat, for sure would love some seed from your A.gigas, I think the key for good germination of this one is to have fresh seed, so yes I'd be interested in a trade. I hoping I will have viable seed from the Salvia 'Rose Queen', they were just WS'd this year so I'll let you know.

For some reason my Knautia macedonic seed didn't germinate, I love it, gotta try again!

Yes, the Knautia macedonica should winter for you; seem to be totally hardy here, and a really good long-bloomer. Great bird photos, as always!

So many pretty pics! I love the birds-- I take alot of pics with insects!

Looking I guess the consensus is that that pretty plant is a phlox. I really like them so I'll probably take some root cuttings in a month or so (that's what I found on it anyway, right) As long as I can get a few going, my aunts will be happy! Thanks for the input!
