If I responded to every species or cultivar name change out there I would be changing 25% of my conifer name tags. The problem is these changes never filter down to nursery stock for sale. A perfect example: Picea bicolor 'Howell's Dwarf' also known as Picea alcoquiani 'Bicolor'. Resin informed me that the later is the correct name. How many Picea alcoquiani 'Bicolor' name tags do you see on this conifer?

bboy stated it right: "An argument for a new name". That's all it will ever be is a argument and never resolved.

I tend to stick with the name tag that comes with the plant unless it is obvious it has been mis marked and this occasionally happens as it makes it's way to the nursery lot.

If I were a Rhodes scholar I would fine this article very interesting especially; SNPS obtained from DNA sequencing.

Since I am not I will stick to bricks, dirt, conifers and companion plants not be bothered with all this foo foo stuff that bboy seems to enjoy. As simple minded as I am I find life very enjoyable and look forward to the next day after I have exhausted everything I can out of this one.

Yes: your post makes it clear you are not interested.

You have the last word bboy. You always do.

Merry Christmas,

Dave

If you say so.

Oh darn: now this might be the last word.
