ghoghunter, I received some of your balsam imatiens in the swap last year. I had never grown them before, and they were a HIGHLIGHT of my garden. I loved them!! They were in part shade- how much shade can they tolerate? Are they like other impatiens in that they can be in full shade?
I'd LOVE some of your dahlia seeds. Could I put in a request for a packet of those? :)

Leasa, I wasn't sure if we were going to include veggie seeds. I have some heirloom tomatoes -- Cherokee Purple and White Wonder -- that I can put your name on if you want. I have a lot of basil too, but I've never saved seed from basil before.

Oh, nasturtiums are edible, do you want some of my Alaskas? They're heirlooms and they have lovely variegated foliage, that you can actually use in a salad (according to what I've read on the web, I've never done it).

Did your pokeweed berries turn purple? The regular ones here have turned. They're squishy--and the birds are leaving special purple presents around here because of them. Yay. I don't know if Variegated does that, too.

Maybe they'll be ready in time for you to send them in to this swap! That would be cool! I'd also love to get a packet of each of your Stokesia, if you don't mind marking them.

This "shopping" is so much fun! I need to start bagging up the other seeds, though!

Stage Rat, Yep, purple berries that the birds deposit everywhere! But the plant is beautiful. I'm glad I cut off all the other berries! Yeah, their squishy now. I need to disect one. Maybe they would dry faster with the berry part off the seed ???

Maggie, I've been trying to figure out how to tell when those are ripe! Mine were white under the red, today theyÂre yellow. I don't know what color they should be. Dawiff wanted seeds from my Painter's Palette, which is like your Lance Corporal but with some white on it, so if she doesn't see this, I bet she'd like some of yours. Oh, and maybe with the pokeweed seed you could just smear it onto a paper towel or coffee filter and let it dry? Then wrap it in paper, (not plastic, in case itÂs still moist, so it wonÂt mold). I'll sow them as soon as I get them.

I'm not sure I completely follow what a lot of you are doing, as I haven't read the posts here vigilantly over the past few weeks.

I don't want to sound harsh or mean, but the seed swap is not a personal swap. It's just meant to be one big grab bag of stuff. I'm allowing you all to include a brief (three item) want list in case there's something you're dying to have.

But when everyone starts writing names on seed packets wanting me to give them to certain others, that's when the swap turns into a nightmare for me. It's quite difficult to dig through your envelopes, find what packets you've designated for others, and match them up. Especially when there are 50+ people in the swap.

PLEASE keep that in mind when you send your envelopes in. If you really want so-and-so's orange sunflower seeds (or whatnot), write it on your want list please. That would make my life so much easier. I don't know if I'll be able to grant individual swap requests simply because of the huge number of people participating this year.

Hi Tracy ~ I think you do a fantastic job every year, even though this is the first year I'm participating. I've only promised one pkt. of blue pea vine seeds to stagerat and that is in my note to you in with my seeds.

I just finished up folding and taping my little packets, and stuffing seeds in them this afternoon. 'Noel' willing, I am stopping at the post office on my way to work tomorrow morning. We've had wind and rain for a couple of days and tomorrow is supposed to be more of the same.

Patti, I'm one of the "Where are they all coming from?" folks. I'm fairly new to gardening and tried one individual seed trade earlier this fall and got hooked! It was so fun. I'm an infrequent poster on a lot of forums, mostly asking newbie questions about my plants. You all and your georgeous gardens are what I aspire to make my little patches into someday. Seeds are the economical way of doing it. Thank you all for the inspiration.

Squirrel Girl ~ thank you for jumping in with your post. I also was wondering where all the people came from that joined the swap, as I hadn't noticed any posts from some in our forum here.

This is a wonderful forum, with lots of friendly people. We learn a lot from each other, inspire each other, and have good times. I also aspire to have my gardens look like some of the wonderful ones that are shown here. I take selective pictures so you don't see all my garden problems. :-)

Seeds are definitely an economical way of having lovely gardens. DH and I live on a shoestring and I'm always looking for ways to improve my gardens inexpensively.

I am thankful to Tracy for hosting this seed swap, and thankful to all those who share seeds from their gardens. We all can't grow the same things and it is always a treat to see pictures of everyone's gardens.

I sent my seeds off in today's mail, sorry I'm cutting it close. I had them drying all over the house, but really had to psych myself up to sit down and parcel them out into envelopes. Then of course I ended up with writer's cramp in my hand from writing info on them! Hope no one has trouble reading my handwriting, I fear towards the end there it was not very legible! LOL
